Raw Recap: Looking Forward to SummerSlam

Last night, Monday Night Raw hosted the Great Balls of Fire Pay-Per-View. Now that it is in the books, the flagship show looks forward to SummerSlam in August. Tonight’s episode focuses on potential new #1 Contenders and a medical update regarding Braun Strowman.

Opening Segment
To kick off the show, Big Cass comes down to the ring. Last night, Cass soundly defeated his former friend, Enzo Amore, proving to his point that he was the better of the two. He brags about his win before declaring his intentions of going for the Universal Championship. Cass says that “no one is bigger” than him among other things, and he is interrupted by the Big Show. Big Show filled in for Cass as Amore’s tag team partner a few weeks ago when Cass was “attacked” backstage. Before Cass was revealed as Amore’s attacker, Cass tried to frame Big Show for it.

When Big Show gets in the ring, the two 7-footers start brawling. Big Show has Cass’ number, but Cass is barely able to escape.

Finn Balor vs. Elias Samson
A few weeks ago, Elias Samson was performing a song when Finn Balor interrupted because he had a scheduled match. Samson has been angry at Balor since and he even attacked Balor in an act of revenge.

Samson seems to have Balor scouted at every opportunity, but Balor is able to turn the tide in his favor. He gets Samson set up perfectly for the Coup de Grace, and while he celebrates the win, The Hardy Boyz come out and congratulate their tag team partner from a few weeks ago. Winner: Finn Balor

The Hardy Boyz vs. Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson
Matt and Jeff Hardy come to the ring and announce that even though they are out of the Raw Tag Team Title picture, they are not going anywhere. They are then interrupted by Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, who said that their loss last night just signified that the Hardy Boyz are no longer as good as they used to be.

While Jeff Hardy is knocked out on the ring apron, Luke Gallows kicks Matt Hardy in the back of the head to set up for the Magic Killer. They hit it perfectly to defeated a wounded Hardys. While the Hardy Boyz are laid out in the ring, The Revival pick up the pieces and assault the former Tag Team Champions. Winners: Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson

MizTV – The Mizzies
In this special edition of the “most must-see talk show in WWE history,” it is an award show titled the Mizzies. Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel tied (a first in Mizzies history) for the award of “Best Supporting Actor.” For “Most Beautiful, Gorgeous, Sexy Leading Lady in WWE,” the award is given to Maryse. The last award, titled “Greatest Man in WWE” goes to the man who retained the Intercontinental Championship last night against Dean Ambrose, The Miz.

After calling Seth Rollins, The Hardy Boyz, Dean Ambrose, and Akira Tozawa losers, Ambrose and Rollins rush the ring and attack The Miz and the Miztourage. The hosts of MizTV have the numbers advantage, but they decide to retreat.

Sasha Banks & Bayley vs. Nia Jax & Alexa Bliss
Last week, this exact match took place. Early on in the match, Nia Jax attacked Bayley at ringside to keep her out of the match altogether. Banks would end up making Alexa Bliss tap out, but the Raw Women’s Champion claims that she lost on purpose. She also lost on purpose last night when she got herself counted out of her title defense to retain the Raw Women’s Championship.

While Jax is focusing on Banks outside of the ring, Bayley rolls up Alexa Bliss to steal the victory. Winners: Sasha Banks & Bayley

Goldust vs. R-Truth
This match between former teammates (a common theme this year) was supposed to take place a few weeks ago, but Goldust attacked R-Truth before the match could ever begin. Goldust showcased the footage as “The Shattered Truth,” and R-Truth returned the attack. After months of going back and forth through vignettes, they finally collide in a match.

Goldust throws R-Truth into the ring post and follows it up with the Curtain Call to create “The Shattered Truth Part 2.” Winner: Goldust

In-ring Segment
Kurt Angle comes to the ring and personally congratulates Brock Lesnar on retaining the Universal Championship against Samoa Joe and he wants to talk to Lesnar and Heyman about Lesnar’s SummerSlam opponent. Roman Reigns, who destroyed Braun Strowman last night, thinks he is next in line, but so does Samoa Joe, who enters the discussion. After a lot of arguing, Kurt Angle comes up with an idea: Samoa Joe vs. Roman Reigns next week, with the winner facing Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.

Cedric Alexander & Akira Tozawa vs. Neville & Noam Dar (w/Alicia Fox)
Raw has gotten to its usual Cruiserweight segment of the night. Akira Tozawa lost a Cruiserweight Championship match against Neville last night on the Kickoff Show, and he is determined to get a rematch. Cedric Alexander and Noam Dar have has their own issues and hopefully, their feud will be blown off in their scheduled “I Quit” match tomorrow night on 205 Live.

Neville is hung up on the top rope, and Tozawa kicks the rope to cause a legal low blow, just like Neville did to him last night. After a diving Senton Bomb, Tozawa does the unthinkable and pins the Cruiserweight Champion. Winners: Cedric Alexander & Akira Tozawa

Bray Wyatt vs. Seth Rollins
Last night, Bray Wyatt defeated Seth Rollins after poking him in the eye. Since it was a controversial loss, Rollins wanted a rematch against the Eater of Worlds.

Wyatt headbutts Rollins’ injured eye and takes advantage of a blinded Rollins with Sister Abigail to score a second consecutive victory. Winner: Bray Wyatt

After the match, Bray Wyatt disappears and Seth Rollins is alone in the ring. Of course, this is the perfect time for The Miz and the Miztourage to pick up the pieces in revenge for earlier tonight. As they attack the Kingslayer, Dean Ambrose rushes down to the ring with a steel chair.
