Raw Recap: A Colossal Main Event

Photo from WWE.com

Tonight, Raw has a big show planned. On MizTV, the featured guest is none other than Kurt Angle’s son, Jason Jordan. There is also a surprise appearance from Brock Lesnar, a clash between two 7-foot tall giants, and a Triple Threat Match between Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns, and Samoa Joe.

Opening Segment
To kick off Raw in Pittsburgh, PA, Kurt Angle addresses his hometown crowd by getting right down to business. After confirming the triple threat main event and Jason Jordan appearing on MizTV. On top of that, he announces a clash between 7-foot giants with Big Cass facing Big Show later tonight and he reveals that tonight is the 21st anniversary of Angle winning an Olympic gold medal “with a broken freakin’ neck.” Angle starts heading to the back, but he is interrupted by the Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar, and his advocate, Paul Heyman.

Heyman complains about the Fatal Four-Way match structure since Lesnar doesn’t have to be involved in the finish to lose the championship. He then goes on to say that if Lesnar loses the title at SummerSlam, both Heyman and Lesnar are leaving WWE.

The Hardy Boyz vs. Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson
Over the past few weeks, there has been a battle between The Revival and The Hardy Boyz with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson caught in the middle. Gallows and Anderson defeated the Hardy Boyz a few weeks ago but would end up losing to The Revival last week. Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder are joining the commentary team for this match and they are still undefeated on Raw.

Matt Hardy dodges Luke Gallows’ boot in the corner and hits him with the Twist of Fate. He then tags in his brother Jeff to finish Gallows off with the Swanton Bomb for the win. Winners: The Hardy Boyz

The Hardys walk past the commentary table while celebrating and they start brawling with the Revival. Of course, Gallows and Anderson want to get in on the action too. Unfortunately for them and The Revival, Matt and Jeff Hardy come out on top and leave the other teams laid out on and around the stage.

Cedric Alexander, Akira Tozawa & Rich Swann vs. TJP, Ariya Daivari, & Tony Nese
This is Raw’s usual “throw two Cruiserweight feuds into one match” segment. The first feud is the “friendly competition” between Rich Swann and TJP. On 205 Live last week, they both chose their respective tag team partners, with TJP and Tony Nese defeating Swann and Cedric Alexander.

The second feud is between Ariya Daivari and Akira Tozawa, who are both pursuing the Cruiserweight Championship. Before this match started, Michael Cole announced a #1 Contender’s match for tomorrow night’s episode of 205 Live between Daivari and Tozawa, with the winner facing Neville for the title at SummerSlam.

Swann tags Tozawa in after hitting TJP with a swift spinning heel kick, and Tozawa takes advantage to hit the Senton Bomb from the top rope to pick up the victory, even with a bad shoulder. Winners: Cedric Alexander, Akira Tozawa, & Rich Swann

MizTV feat. Jason Jordan
In the newest edition of the “most must-see” reality show on Monday Night Raw, the featured guest is the man who was recently revealed to be Kurt Angle’s son, Jason Jordan. Throughout his inquiries, The Miz asks for Jordan to join the Miztourage, but the former SmackDown Tag Team Champion declines the offer. Miz then insults Jordan and Angle until he tries to sucker punch Jordan, but he counters. Jordan hits Miz with a belly-to-belly suplex into Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas before walking away.

Sheamus (w/Cesaro) vs. Seth Rollins
Earlier tonight, Seth Rollins ran into Sheamus and Cesaro and the Raw Tag Team Champions made fun of Rollins for not being able to mend his friendship with Dean Ambrose and having no friends in general. Rollins was tired of their words so he challenged them to a fight and the Celtic Warrior accepted.

Rollins manages to roll up Sheamus after attacking Cesaro to pick up the victory. He doesn’t have long to celebrate though since Cesaro immediately attacks him from behind. The Raw Tag Team Champions assault the Architect/Kingslayer while the crowd chants “We want Ambrose.” Winner: Seth Rollins

When Rollins goes to get up, the champs attack him again. Surprisingly, Ambrose comes to the ring to make the save, but the numbers game gets the best of him when Cesaro lays him out with the Neutralizer. Ambrose has just enough energy to dare them for more punishment, and Cesaro immediately pounds on the Lunatic Fringe. While Cesaro chokes Ambrose out with his own T-shirt, Sheamus hits him with a Brogue Kick.

In-ring Segment
Bray Wyatt comes to the ring and says a bunch of gibberish just to call out Finn Balor. Balor uses Wyatt’s games against him by appearing behind The Eater of Worlds out of nowhere. Wyatt goes to attack him, but Balor sees it coming and sends Wyatt retreating.

Samoa Joe vs. Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns
At SummerSlam, all three of these men will simultaneously challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship, but tonight, they give us a little preview in a Triple Threat Match against each other.

Roman Reigns knocks Braun Strowman out of the ring with steel steps then turns around to finish off a groggy Samoa Joe with a spear. Reigns picks up the victory, giving him his first win over Samoa Joe and a ton of momentum towards SummerSlam. Winner: Roman Reigns

Kalisto vs. Elias
In some very unfortunate news, Elias is the most recent WWE Superstar to lose part of his name. He is no longer referred to as “Elias Samson,” but instead, he will just be “Elias.” After defeating Finn Balor last week in a No Disqualification Match (thanks to some help from Bray Wyatt), he has a new opponent in a former United States Champion, Kalisto.

Kalisto gets a good amount of offense in on The Drifter, but one mistake is enough for Elias to capitalize. After hitting Kalisto with the neckbreaker dubbed “Drift Away,” Elias picks up the victory. Winner: Elias

Bayley vs. Nia Jax
For a hot second, Raw focused on its entire women’s division, but that’s over now. After Bayley defeated Sasha Banks to earn a Raw Women’s Championship match against Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam, she is back to facing Nia Jax. People booking the show may have forgotten about Alicia Fox, Emma, Mickie James, and Dana Brooke, and their presence would provide more depth to the roster.

Alexa Bliss looks to blindside Bayley at ringside, but the #1 Contender counters the attack. Bayley then dodges Nia Jax, who sends herself crashing into the steps. After getting in the ring, Bayley beats the referee’s count of ten before escaping a two-on-one assault. Winner (via count-out): Bayley

Big Show (w/Enzo Amore) vs. Big Cass
After Big Show offered to tag with Enzo Amore a couple months ago, Big Cass has had a target on Show’s back. Show and Cass have brawled a couple times, but Enzo seems to think all of this is his fault. Whether it is or not, animosity has grown between the two 7-foot tall Raw Superstars.

Cass looks to have Big Show under control when Enzo Amore jumps on him from behind to lock in a sleeper hold, forcing the disqualification. Big Show takes advantage of a distracted Cass to regain consciousness and knock him out with the WMD. Winner (via disqualification): Big Cass
