Obviously, Blake Snell isn’t giving his franchise rave reviews early on for trading outfielder Tommy Pham to the San Diego Padres. Indeed, Snell is unhappy with the trade.
We know this because of a reaction that was posted to twitter. In what appears to be a video player, Snell can be heard giving his ‘take’ on the transaction.

In case you can’t clearly make out what the starting pitcher says here, this was the quote.
“We’re giving Pham up for Renfroe, and a slap dick prospect?”
Without question, it’s easy to understand why Snell wouldn’t love the trade. For instance, Pham was a 3.7 bWAR player in 2019 in what was considered to be a down year. Even though Pham is 31-years old, he’s still seen as a valuable two-way player.
Of course, we don’t know a ton about this prospect involved in the deal who Snell refers to only as ‘slap-dick’; and often times the slap-dick becomes the prize in later years.
Still, the take home message here is that the Padres won the trade sitting here today. And they are the team in baseball who should be getting high marks for the winter they’re having thus far. They are planting their flag in the ground and taking charge to make a major push in 2020.
All of this leaves players like Snell to be a bit unhappy, because veterans don’t care about winning in a few years. It’s understandable, and in this case it’s a little humorous.
