It was a busy weekend around the golfing world with some of the best in the game battling in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill while the European Tour continued on the other side of the world with the Hero Indian Open. Meanwhile, the LPGA Tour resumed with the JTBC Founders Cup following a week off and ended with a surprise winner coming out on top with a record performance. Here is a recap of the action from around the golf world this past week.
Arnold Palmer Invitational

Jason Day closed with a 2-under 70 for a one-shot victory over Kevin Chappell at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Sunday. Day, who was looking for his first win of 2016, made a huge birdie putt on 17 to pull ahead of Chappell and then closed it out with another par putt on 18. The win pushes Day to No. 2 in the world rankings and puts him in line to overtake Jordan Spieth for the No. 1 spot in the World Golf Championships-Dell Match Play next week. Chappell was forced to settle for his second runner-up finish dating back to last November as he stretched his run without a victory to 150 PGA Tour events. Meanwhile, Troy Merritt rallied with five birdies on the back nine to put himself in the conversation among the leaders, but double-bogeyed on 18 and settled for a tie for third with Henrik Stenson at 14-under for the tournament. Adam Scott also had a strong final round with six birdies, but was once again tripped up on the 18th hole with a double-bogey. Scott, who was looking to become the first golfer since 2014 to win three PGA Tour events in a row, had triple-bogeyed on 18 in the third round and the two stumbles ultimately cost him as he finished tied for 12th at nine-under. Meanwhile, McIlroy really struggled with a career-high six double-bogeys in the tournament, but shot a 65 on Sunday to finish tied for 27th at 6-under.

It was no surprise to golf fans when an Indian golfer was crowned the winner at this year’s Hero Indian Open in a tournament that went down to the wire over the weekend. SSP Chawrasia shot a 71 to finish 15-under and edge out the defending champion Anirban Lahiri and Korea’s Juenghun Wang on the final hole and claim the $1.66 million prize. Chawrasia has been a runner-up at the Hero Indian Open on four different occasions, but finally found a way to edge out Lahiri in a battle of two Indian golfers that have a very strong familiarity with the New Delhi course. Seven different golfers that finished in the top-10 were representing the host country in the tournament, but ultimately it was Chawrasia that finally broke through with a big win.

LPGA Tour
After a week off, the LPGA Tour resumed with 23-year-old South Korean Sei Young Kim matching an LPGA scoring mark in a win at the JTBC Founders Cup at Desert Ridge. Kim closed with a 10-under 62 and matched Annika Sorenstam’s LPGA Tour scoring record of 27 under for a five-stroke victory over Lydia Ko. Ko looked destined for her first win of 2016 when she teed off, but couldn’t keep up with the record pace set by Kim. Any other normal week likely would have led to a win for Ko but she was up against a woman who was on fire this week. Meanwhile, Stacy Lewis had a disappointing finish to stretch her victory drought to 44 events as she finished tied for fourth at 19-under. There were higher hopes for her but it’s clear that she continues to come close without getting the job done. Megan Khang, Brooke Henderson, Paula Creamer and Eun-Hee Ji.
