As the NCAA Tournament comes to a close, GMS likes to review some of the power conference or power program teams that made it to the Big Dance and ask whether or not they’ve got a shot to return to the show next season. We continue on with teams eliminated in the second round.
Recruit and Reload: Butler Bulldogs
Key Losses: Kellen Dunham, Roosevelt Jones
Key Returners: Kelan Martin, Andrew Chrabascz
Key Newcomers: Joey Brunk, Kamar Baldwin
Breakdown: Ask Butler fans how they felt about this offseason six months ago and the concerns would have been exponentially more serious than they are now. With the emergence of Martin as, perhaps, the team’s most dynamic talent as the year went on, hope once again springs eternal among Bulldogs fans.
But it isn’t just Martin. Bringing back Chrabascz for his senior year is monumental, as is adding a talent like Brunk, ranked among the nation’s top 100 prospects and someone who chose Butler over a host of perennial “names” in the college basketball world. Still, keep an eye on Baldwin. Many industry insiders think he’s a guy who could develop into an upperclassman star during his time at Butler.
