Recruit and Reload: Iowa Hawkeyes

As the NCAA Tournament comes to a close, GMS likes to review some of the power conference or power program teams that made it to the Big Dance and ask whether or not they’ve got a shot to return to the show next season. We continue on with teams eliminated in the second round.

Recruit and Reload: Iowa Hawkeyes

Key Losses: Jarrod Uthoff, Adam Woodbury, Anthony Clemmons, Mike Gesell

Key Returners: Peter Jok (expected)

Key Newcomers: Tyler Cook

Breakdown: There might not have been a more hot and cold team in the country last season than Iowa. When they were at their best, they were a Final Four-like contender and Uthoff was a Naismith candidate. That wasn’t the Hawkeyes team that started, nor ended, the year however. Now head coach McCaffery has to find a way to move on without a core of four seniors.

Jok was one of the most improved players in the country last season which means that Iowa can build around him for next year. But where’s the depth? Iowa usually finds a way to fill roles despite the lack of household names, but we’re once again in wait and see mode with this program before we proclaim any likely return to the dance.
