Recruit and Reload: Providence Friars

As the NCAA Tournament comes to a close, GMS likes to review some of the power conference or power program teams that made it to the Big Dance and ask whether or not they’ve got a shot to return to the show next season. We continue on with teams eliminated in the second round.

Recruit and Reload: Providence Friars

Key Losses: Kris Dunn, Ben Bentil (expected)

Key Returners: Jalen Lindsey, Rodney Bullock, Kyron Cartwright

Key Newcomers: Alpha Diallo, Maliek White

Breakdown: The Friars will look quite different next season without veteran and star point guard Kris Dunn. With the possibility of losing Ben Bentil as well, Ed Cooley’s group is running the risk of losing as much talent and production as anyone else in the nation. If Bentil returns, though, things start to look up.

Bringing back a core of Lindsey, Bullock, and Cartwright is big for cohesion and experience, but adding a talent like Diallo could be the kicker for next year’s team. There are questions about his ability to qualify, but if he does, he has the potential to be an instant impact type of wing
