As the NCAA Tournament comes to a close, GMS likes to review some of the power conference or power program teams that made it to the Big Dance and ask whether or not they’ve got a shot to return to the show next season. We continue on with teams eliminated in the second round.
Recruit and Reload: UConn Huskies
Key Losses: Daniel Hamilton, Sterling Gibbs, Rodney Purvis (expected)
Key Returners: Jalen Adams, Amida Brimah (expected)
Key Newcomers: Juwan Durham, Alterique Gilbert, Vance Jackson
Breakdown: Losing Hamilton wasn’t a complete shock, but many around the program felt like they still had a chance to hold onto him for another season. Add to that the departure of Gibbs and the likelihood that Purvis stays in the Draft, and you’ve got a bit of a retooling for Kevin Ollie. Still, if he can convince Brimah to stay, there are worse duos to return than him and Adams.
But this is UConn, so you know there will be high school talent on the way. Durham and Gilbert are both great pieces, but count this writer as one of the many fans of Jackson, one of the best shooters in the high school basketball ranks.
