As the NCAA Tournament comes to a close, GMS likes to review some of the power conference or power program teams that made it to the Big Dance and ask whether or not they’ve got a shot to return to the show next season. We continue on with teams eliminated in the Sweet 16.
Recruit and Reload: Wisconsin Badgers
Key Losses: Nigel Hayes (possible)
Key Returners: Bronson Koenig, Ethan Happ, Vitto Brown
Key Newcomers: N/A
Breakdown: What a weird season in Madison, but one that obviously ended with more of a high than it began. We’re now officially in the Greg Gard era and the biggest question is whether or not Nigel Hayes remains in the NBA Draft. He had a disappointing campaign, personally, so it’s very possible that he could still return to UW and shoot for one more deep run.
He’d have plenty of support, if so. Koenig will be one of the best and most experienced guards in the conference, while the emergence of both Happ and Brown as viable offensive and defensive options were largely responsible for UW’s end of season surge. We’re not ready to predict another Final Four, but the Badgers should be darn good next season.
