Mack Leftwich and the Texas-El Paso Miners take on Driphus Jackson and the Rice Owls in a game that will feature two of the best players in the CUSA. The Miners have gone 3-5 thus far, while the Owls are 4-4. The game starts at 8:00 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov 6 and will be available on CBSS.
In last week’s matchup, UTEP struggled mightily against Southern Miss 34-13. Mack Leftwich had a quality performance through the air in the loss, connecting on 16 of 32 pass attempts for 197 yards. Rice also struggled, losing big against Louisiana Tech 42-17. Driphus Jackson had a solid performance through the air for the Owls, connecting on 14 of 28 pass attempts for 180 yards and two TDs.
The Owls take on the Miners as a six-point favorite this week. The Over/Under (O/U) for the matchup is currently not available.
With a 3-5 record both Straight Up (SU) and Against The Spread (ATS), the Miners will look to improve as they head into Week 10. In their five most recent matchups, the Miners went 2-3 for both SU and ATS. On average, the Owls earn 7.5 flags each game, one of the worst rates in the nation. Such errors could be beneficial for the Miners if they persist into this week’s game.
In the other locker room, the Owls head into Week 10 with records of 5-3 ATS and 4-4 SU. Over their last five games, the Owls have a SU and ATS record of 2-3 for those betting with them. Other teams have a high success rate throwing the ball against the Miners. It may be in Rice’s game plan to take advantage of the home team’s inability to stop the pass, 128th in the nation at 17.4 yards per pass. It might not be too hard for the Owls to start fast this week with UTEP’s defense allowing 9.4 points in the first quarter.
Predictions: SU Winner – Rice, ATS Winner – Rice
