According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Houston Rockets and guard Eric Gordon have agreed to a three-year, $54.5 million contract extension. Gordon’s new deal will start from the 2020-21 campaign and will run through the 2022-23 season.
Eric Gordon will get three-years, $54.5M guaranteed on his extension, per source, starting with the 2020-2021 season — $16.9M, $18.2M, and $19.6M. The non-guaranteed season would earn him $20.9M.

Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle first reported the story. “The Rockets on Friday reached agreement with guard Eric Gordon on the largest contract extension they could offer, a person with knowledge of the deal said. With Gordon, 30, going into the final season of the four-year deal he signed with the Rockets as a free agent in 2016, the Rockets will sign Gordon to a four-year, $75.6 million extension, according to the individual familiar with the agreement. Including the remaining season on his contract, Gordon will earn roughly $90 million over the next five seasons.”
The 30-year-old guard is entering his last year of the current contract with the Rockets and will earn $14 million in 2019-20. As per league sources, his contract extension includes a $20.9 million salary in 2023-24 that could become guaranteed if Gordon makes an All-Star team or if Houston wins the NBA championship during the course of the contract.
Gordon, who won the Sixth Man of the Year in 2017, has averaged almost 17 points per contest in his three seasons with the Houston Rockets and was the second-best scorer behind James Harden. Now, with Russell Westbrook on the roster, Gordon is expected to be the third star of the team and leading player off the bench as has been the case in the past few seasons.
Even though his contribution may possibly decline during the contract, Gordon still has enough quality to play in one of the best NBA teams, and his presence will be highly valuable. He is still one of the best three-pointers in the league, and when he’s red-hot, there are not many players better than Gordon from beyond the arc.
