The Runnin’ Rebels Invade Fayetteville

The Mississippi Runnin’ Rebels travel to Fayetteville to play the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, October 15th at 7:00 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on the ESPN Network for your viewing pleasure. The Runnin’ Rebels are -7.5 point favorites and the total is 67.

The Runnin’ Rebels are coming off a bye week after a challenging slate to start of the year. Ole Miss went 3-2 during that span blowing big leads to the Seminoles and the Crimson Tide. Arkansas got their lunch handed to them against Alabama last week, losing 49-30 in a game that wasn’t as close as the scoreboard indicated.

#13 Ole Miss (3-2):

Senior signal-caller Chad Kelly has been lights-out for the Mississippi Runnin’ Rebels in 2016. The experienced quarterback is completing 66% of his passes for just under 1,600 yards with 13 touchdowns and only four picks.

Undoubtedly, the Runnin’ Rebels like to throw the ball first then run it when the back end is softened up. That’s when they look to Akeem Judd to get the job done. This year, Judd has ran the ball 56 times for 302 yards and has two trips to the end zone for his efforts.

Ole Miss is absolutely loaded at the wide out position. Three talented receivers share balls tossed their way from Chad Kelly. As a whole, they have amassed 71 catches for over 1,000 yards and seven scores. Evan Engram also leads the trio with 479 yards a four touchdowns.

The Runnin’ Rebel’s defense has been inconsistent during their five game stretch to start the year. At times, they have looked good by holding Florida State and Alabama down in the first halves of their games. Nevertheless, they looked horrible in the second halves and are the main reason that Ole Miss is now 3-2 instead of 5-0. Ole Miss is allowing just over 215 rushing yards per game which ranks them in 105th in the country.

#22 Arkansas (4-2):

Arkansas’s quarterback Austin Allen threw three interceptions to go along with his 400 yards passing and three scores. He will need to limit the turnovers if he hopes to keep pace with the Runnin’ Rebels Chad Kelly. This year, Allen has chalked-up some impressive stats. He has over 1,600 yards on 119 completions with 15 touchdown passes and five interceptions.

The Razorback’s running game was nonexistent last week against the Crimson Tide. They only mustered up 73 total yards out of the back field. Rawleigh Williams III has to be better and their offense line needs to regroup. Williams has carried the ball over 110 times this year and has over 600 yards to show for it. The sole provider also has five trips to the end zone in 2016.

Austin Allen loves to spread the ball around to his wide receivers. Four of the talented group share the work-load. As a result, they have tallied 86 catches for well over 1,100 yards and an impressive 14 touchdowns.

When truly tested against some top SEC talent, the Arkansas Razorback defense has not performed up to par. They sit 83rd nationally against the run and are average at best against the pass. Teams are also throwing the ball for almost 220 yards a game against the Hogs in 2016. Unfortunately, that number will probably only get worse after Chad Kelly is done dicing them up.

Trends and Notes:

The Rebels are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 conference games.

The Razorbacks are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a straight up loss.

The Under is 20-7 in the Rebels last 27 road games.

The Over is 5-2 in the Razorbacks last 7 conference games.

The Underdog is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

The Rebels are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 meetings.

Game Prediction:

Ole Miss hopes to turn their season around by simply playing all four quarters of football. The offensive numbers are there but the defense needs to continue to improve if they hope to win big SEC games on the road.

Arkansas will need to have a short memory after the shellacking they took at the hands of the Crimson Tide on national television last week. A bounce back game against a familiar opponent might just be what the doctor has ordered.

Both offenses have moved the ball impressively through the first halves of their seasons. Over here at Get More Sports, don’t see any reason why that wont be the case once again. This should be an up and down affair with plenty of points continuing into the fourth quarter.

Traditionally, the Razorbacks have played well at home and against the Runnin’ Rebels. That wont change this weekend either. Take the over 67 with confidence and once again we suggest you to think dog and take advantage of that half a point (+7.5).
