Two Chicago shortstops made headlines for very different reasons on Wednesday in Major League Baseball. The Cubs’ Addison Russell made his return from a long domestic-violence suspension, vowing that he’s a better person and will continue to improve. The White Sox’s Tim Anderson defended his bat flips, saying they made baseball more fun and that he had no time for the game’s archaic unwritten rules. Elsewhere, Christian Yelich homered again and baseball fan Jeopardy James won again.
Cubs fans greeted Russell with a mix of cheers and boos. He went 0-for-3 in his return to the Major Leagues.
Addison Russell returns to Wrigley Field, but is he a changed man (or really trying to change)? It’s impossible to answer. For me, anyway. https://t.co/bAe6BApLEM

On the South Side, Tim Anderson is making his own controversy. But how exactly is he wrong?
New ep of The Opener podcast is live! @whitesox SS @TimAnderson7 on flipping bats, the stupidity of throwing at hitters, being a role model, representing the South Side, and bringing fun to the game of baseball.
Great chat with an incredibly upbeat guy.https://t.co/oWhUw9BVK6

Christian Yelich has 16 home runs, which is a ton. He has 15 of them at home. Imagine if he could play all of his games at Miller Park.
The #MVP is getting stronger.@ChristianYelich hit his 16th homer of the season in just his 34th game.
He didn’t hit his 16th homer last season until his 96th game (August 2nd). pic.twitter.com/38fSwHQEpL

Jeopardy! champion James Holzhauer — who’s also a professional sports gambler — could be coming to a front office near you when his run on the show finally ends.
Jeopardy champ James Holzhauer loves baseball, idolized Billy Beane. What does Beane think? “We have to get this guy in baseball.” https://t.co/n52Po1JPIV

More Cubs controversy: They banned a fan for making an allegedly racist hand gesture behind a black reporter.
So the Cubs banned a fan for life for playing the circle/shoulder punch game, but promoted Addison Russell, ON THE SAME DAY, to the Cubs roster even though he beat his wife. Sports, in 2019.
