With so many picks new head coach Chip Kelly and general manager Trent Baalke can find a plethora of all new ways to screw up the San Francisco 49ers. This draft, with the exception of the first pick, won’t do that. This mock will, in fact, make the 49ers better. Which means there’s little chance their actual draft will look like this.

Round 1, Pick 7 – Jared Goff, QB, California
2015: 64.5 completion percentage, 4,714 yards, 43 touchdowns. 6-foot-4, 215 pounds
With Chip Kelly hired you’d almost expect the 49ers to do something else with their first-round pick besides picking a quarterback. Then Colin Kaepernick decided he wanted to get traded and ruin any chance he had of an actual career. I don’t like Goff’s arm strength or accuracy and rated him the No. 6 quarterback on my board because I’m a loner, Dottie. A rebel. Still, everyone else seems to like him and I think the 49ers have been burned by not taking a Cal quarterback before.
UPDATE – Round 2, Pick 37 Jeremy Cash, Safety, Duke
Round 3, Pick 68 – Sterling Shepard, WR, Oklahoma
2015: 86 receptions, 1,288 yards, 11 touchdowns, 5-foot-10, 194 pounds
Shepard is a small guy, but has the speed to separate and create big plays downfield. He ran a 4.48 at the combine and will be a guy that Goff could underthrow or Kaepernick could overthrow for years to come.
Round 4, Pick 105 – Jordan Jenkins, OLB, Georgia
2015: 58 tackles, 9.5 for a loss, four sacks, two forced fumbles, 6-foot-3, 259
With the 49ers leaking linebackers and even contemplating cutting Ahmad Brooks, they need to pick up plenty in this draft. Jenkins has the size and enough speed to pass rush in their 3-4 system or play the strong side of the field.
Round 4, Pick 133 – Spencer Drango, OG, Baylor
2015: Four-year starter at left tackle, 6-foot-6, 315 pounds
While Drango played outside his entire career at pass-happy Baylor, he projects as a guard in the NFL. He was an Outland Trophy finalist and the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the year.
Round 5, Pick 142 – Sean Davis, Safety, Maryland
2015: 88 tackles, 4.5 for a loss, one sack, three interceptions, three passes defended, one fumble recovery, five forced fumbles, 6-foot-1, 201 pounds
Davis is a steal in the fifth round and it shocks me to see him with this kind of grade. He ran a 4.46 40-yard dash and spent four years at Maryland hitting offensive players like a freight train.
Round 5, Pick 145 – Tyler Ervin, RB, San Jose State
2015: 294 carries, 1,601 yards, 5.4 yards per carry, 13 touchdowns, 45 receptions, 334 yards, two touchdowns, 5-foot-10, 192 pounds
Ervin is a small back by NFL standards and will have to bulk up some, but he’s ready to contribute already as a third-down player. He’s a multipurpose offensive weapon and laid down a blazing 4.41 40-yard dash at the combine.
Round 5, Pick 174 – Blake Martinez, ILB, Stanford
2015: 139 tackles, 6.5 for a loss, two sacks, one interception, six passes defended, one forced fumble, 6-foot-2, 237 pounds
Martinez needs to put on about 10 pounds of muscle, but he’s quick, has good instincts and is a tackling machine. His 4.71 speed and Stanford football IQ doesn’t hurt.
Round 6, Pick 178 – Beau Sandland, TE, Montana State
2015: 37 catches, 632 yards, nine touchdowns, 6-foot-4, 253 pounds
Sandland gives the 49ers another big red zone target and a guy that knows how to get open in short yardage situations.
Round 6, Pick 207 – D.J. Pettway, DE, Alabama
2015: 18 tackles, five for a loss, two sacks, two passes defended, 6-foot-2, 265 pounds
Pettway didn’t start for the Crimson Tide, but he was an important rotational player and will come into the NFL with a lot of development ahead of him. He comes with some off-the-field baggage too after being charged with robbery in 2013. Pettway was cleared and spent a season at East Mississippi where he registed 11.5 sacks and 47 tackles.
Round 6, Pick 211 – Joe Dahl, OG, Washington State
2015: Two year starter at guard and tackle, 6-foot-4, 304 pounds
Dahl has good size and development potential. He was an honorable mention All-PAC-12 honoree and gave up just one sack in 771 pass attempts.
Round 6, Pick 213 – Jordan Lucas, Safety, Penn State
2015: 56 tackles, 2.5 for a loss, one sack, three passes defended, one forced fumble, 6-foot-0, 201 pounds
Lucas is a tremendous athlete who converted to safety his senior season after being a cornerback. Before that he was recruited as a wide receiver.
