The San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues are tied 2-2 in the Western Conference Finals. Both teams are looking to go up 3-2 in the series and get within a win of the Stanley Cup Finals. Elsewhere in the NHL, there is plenty of speculation about the upcoming free agency period, while the 2019 IIHF World Championships are near the end of the Group Stage across the pond.

TRADE BAIT: If Jim Rutherford is going to blow things up in Pittsburgh, Phil Kessel is the first and most likely to go.

More speculation has swirled around what will happen with the Pittsburgh Penguins than with any other team this coming offseason. The Penguins have an untenable salary cap situation, and it’s widely expected that Phil Kessel will be released to get Pittsburgh under the cap. Winnipeg’s Jacob Trouba and Tampa Bay’s Ryan Callahan round out the list of the top three players heading into free agency.

One of the best goalkeepers in the history of the NHL may soon re-join the league on the bench. Patrick Roy coached the Colorado Avalanche for three seasons in the mid-2010s, and it’s reported that he is one of the top candidates to be the next coach of the Ottawa Senators. He won the Jack Adams Award as the NHL’s best coach in 2013-14, and he posted a 130-92-24 record in three seasons in Colorado.

Team USA and Team Germany are squaring off in each team’s penultimate Group Stage game today. Germany has already punched its ticket to the knockout rounds, but Team USA needs another victory to ensure a spot there. The Americans are being chased by hosts Slovakia, who beat them in their opener, and if they don’t get a point out of this game, they will need to beat Team Canada in their final group stage game to move on.
