Logan Couture’s Hat Trick Wins it for San Jose, Columbus Defends Home Ice and More

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The San Jose Sharks struck early in Game 3, and they rallied late to knock off the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 on Tuesday night. San Jose is now up 2-1 in its series with Colorado, and the Sharks have taken back home ice advantage. In Tuesday’s early game, Columbus knocked off Boston 2-1 to take the series lead. The Blue Jackets were better on the road than they were at home this season, but they are now 3-0 at Nationwide Arena in the playoffs.

Sergei Bobrovsky was incredible for Columbus last night. The Blue Jackets’ goaltender was named the first star of the night after stopping 36 of 37 shots against Boston. He denied a number of great chances, essentially stealing the game with his performance.

Brad Marchand is at it again. While Marchand is not quite at the Tom Wilson level, it’s clear that people are getting frustrated with his antics. Near the end of Game 3, he clearly punched Scott Harrington in the back of the head, and the incident sent hockey Twitter into an uproar. The NHL has announced that Marchand will not be suspended for the action, but this is likely the last straw.

San Jose largely controlled the flow of the game in its win over Colorado last night. Martin Jones had another good game in net, and he seems to have put his early postseason woes behind him. His play is huge for the Sharks chances going forward. All they need is for Jones to be average with the amount of firepower on this team.

Logan Couture was fantastic for San Jose last night. Couture notched the first goal of the game, and he scored two goals late in the third period to ice it for the Sharks after Colorado had rallied to tie the game at two. Last night’s hat trick gives Couture nine goals in 10 games this postseason.

After a three-year stint in the KHL, it looks like Pavel Datsyuk might close out his professional career in Detroit. Datsyuk has said he will not return to his KHL team next season, and the rumor mill is buzzing that he could be on his way back to the Motor City. The legend will turn 41 this July, and he has 918 career points in the NHL.
