The most exciting event in sports lived up to its billing last night. The NHL saw two Game Sevens, and while the first one was good, the second one was an instant classic. San Jose overcame a 3-0 deficit with 10 minutes left and eventually beat Vegas 5-4 in overtime to advance to the Western Conference Semifinals. I’ll have more on that game below.

For the second straight season, the Boston Bruins eliminated the Toronto Maple Leafs in seven games to move on in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. There is no rest for Boston as the team faces the Columbus Blue Jackets tomorrow, but the Bruins do have home ice advantage in the series.

Toronto’s exit means that no Canadian teams are left in the Stanley Cup playoffs. It’s now been over a quarter-century since a Canadian team last lifted the Stanley Cup, and the country that loves hockey more than any other is long overdue to see another Cup winner.
WHAT
A
COMEBACK
OMG OMG OMG

The San Jose Sharks pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in NHL playoff history last night, and it was incredibly cathartic for a franchise that has been snake-bitten. San Jose used a power play from a five-minute major to score four goals in just over four minutes in a display that sent the SAP Arena into a frenzy. That was arguably the biggest win in San Jose’s history.

There has been some controversy for the referee’s decision to award San Jose a five minute major for the above hit, and the Golden Knights let their frustrations out immediately after the game. They called the penalty “embarrassing” and claimed that they were robbed, but it’s hard to fault the officials considering how Pavelski fell and that he was bleeding from the head immediately after he hit the ice.

The conference semifinals will be officially set after tonight’s Game Seven between Carolina and Washington tonight. We can only hope that it lives up to what we saw from the other two last night.
