Santa Cruz is the champion at featherweight, and Frampton is moving up in weight class to face him. Santa Cruz also comes from the bantamweight divisions, but he has been at featherweight a long time, and he is coming off a big win against Abner Mares to establish himself in the new division. Frampton is a former world titleholder himself, but he is coming off two lackluster performances in a row before this fight. Frampton will be giving up considerable height and reach advantages to Santa Cruz in this one.
Last Saturday, fans of technical boxing were treated to a strong showing by WBO 140 pound champion Terence Crawford as he won a wide unanimous decision over formerly undefeated Viktor Postol. Crawford was a strong favorite at the sports books, but many people gave Postol a chance if he could fight his fight, which meant establish a jab and make things ugly on the inside to slow Crawford down. Because of how technical and precise Crawford was for all twelve rounds, Postol was able to do none of those things. Look for Crawford to move up the Boxing Rankings to #1 at 140 lbs (TBRB.org).
Next up for Crawford could be a lucrative November showdown with a returning Manny Pacquiao, as both men are promoted by Bob Arum and that should make things easier on the negotiations side of things.

The TnS Podcast also looks at the latest in the status of former WBA heavyweight champion Lucas Browne, who is scheduled to be in court in the coming weeks as he hopes to potentially be fighting again before the end of the year.
TnS talked briefly about the subject of “comebacks” and how they seem to be all the vogue right now with some of the older fighters out there. The immediate example talked about is the fight between returning Antonio Margarito and Raul Alvarez, who is the brother of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
Speaking of “Canelo” both he and his mentor Oscar De La Hoya made the press rounds this week in support of their upcomig pay-per-view bout with England’s Liam Smith. The two attempted what appeard to be some damage control, as Alvarez had been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism over his reluctance to face Gennady Golovkin. Things came to a head when Alvarez vadated the WBC title at 160 lbs, seeming to put a nail in the coffin of the Golovkin vs Alvarez fight.
Finally, we talked briefly on another hot button topic on the TnS podcasts and that is the PPV #s expected for Crawford vs Postol and we tossed our first over/under # of buys for the Alvarez vs Smith showdown at super welterweight.
