International Boxing Odds – This weekend sees a full range of international boxing popping up at the sports books. Back in the forefront this week is the super flyweight division, as several fights featuring men jockeying for position behind the #1 pound for pound fighter in the world, Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez are on the calendar.
Leading off on Friday night is Oscar De La Hoya and his Golden Boy Promotions as they air their L.A. Fight Club series on Estrella TV live from the Belasco Theater. The main event sees 28-2 Diego Magdaleno return after a layoff of one year to face Art Hovhannisyan (17-2-3). We last saw Hovhannisyan in May when he battled Fidel Maldonado Jr to a draw, but prior to that he had been off for nearly two years. We last saw Magdaleno a year ago when he was stopped in the second round by Terry Flanagan in a failed bid to win a world title.

Shifting the focus to Saturday, China and Mexico are hosting fights of considerable importance in the super flyweight division.
In China, Top Rank Boxing is in Hong Kong with a card headlined by undefeated Rex Tso (19-0) as he takes on the challenge of Japan’s Ryuto Maekawa (11-0-1). The match is intriguing because a win for Tso could see him fight outside of China in the near future, while at 20 years old a win for Maekawa would be a major step in his career. Tso and Maekawa turned pro around the same time back in 2011, but Tso became a professional in his mid-20’s while Maekawa turned pro fighting in Thailand at 16 years old. A very interesting contrast in backgrounds between the two men.
Meanwhile, in Mexico Juan Francisco Estrada (33-2) returns to take on journeyman Raymond Tabugon (18-5-1) of the Philippines. Estrada is best known for his November of 2012 loss to “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, and he has logged 7 straight wins since as he lobbies for a re-match. Here he returns to his Sonora stomping grounds to log ring time against a veteran in Tabugon who is 1-2 in his last three fights.
Finally, in Moscow Russia, the vacant WBC international title at 140 pounds is on the line between Aik Shakhnazaryan (18-2) and Javier Jose Clavero (19-1). Shakhnazaryan has won three fights in a row by KO since dropping two fights in a row to start of 2015. The losses were to Eduard Troyanovsky, who won a world title shortly after their meeting, and Abner Lopez in what was Shakhnazaryan’s U.S. debut. Clavero is from Argentina, and this will be his first time fighting outside of his native country.
