Shai Gilgeous Alexander won’t make it to camp’s opening day

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, won’t be there for the start of training camp after the organization revealed on Wednesday that he had an MCL injury. Gilgeous-Alexander will miss the start of training camp due to a grade 2 sprain, according to the team. Due to the season-ending injury to No. 2 overall selection pick in 2022 Chet Holmgren, the Thunder were already rather depleted entering training camp. His right foot sustained a Lisfranc injury in August as he was competing in The CrawsOver pro-am in Seattle.

In his fourth year, Gilgeous-Alexander came forward with the appearance of a franchise player. The guard averaged 24.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.9 assists over the course of the season. Before being sidelined for the season due to a painful right ankle, he played in 13 games following the All-Star break, averaging 30.4 points on 54% shooting. In 10 of his previous 13 games, he had at least 30 points. He was the senior member of the core team.
