Showtime Boxing Odds Saturday June 11 – Provodnikov Returns and More

Showtime Boxing Odds Saturday June 11

Showtime Boxing Odds Saturday June 11 – The Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York hosts Showtime Boxing this Saturday night, and five of the fights on the card are getting attention at the sport books. Check your local listings for start times.

The main attractions come in the 154-pound super welterweight division as former world titleholder Demetrius Andrade (22-0) returns to face Willie Nelson (25-2-1) and popular Russian Ruslan Provodnikov moves up in weight to face John Molina Jr. Andrade is the former BO world titleholder, but he gave the belt up due to inactivity and he has basically not been heard from for two years. He did fight in October of 2015 in a non-televised fight that he won in under four minutes but this fight on Showtime will put him back in the public eye. Andrade needs a stand out performance as he jockeys for position in what is a talent laden weight class that includes the likes of Erislandy Lara and Jermell and Jermall Charlo, the twin brothers who both hold world titles.

As for Provodnikov, he is back to put his reputation as a crowd-pleaser back on the line against hard hitting John Molina Jr. Provodnikov has not won two fights in a row for several years as he has been fearless in taking on top competition. Though he is out of his weight class in this one, Molina too is coming up in weight so Provodnikov may only be doing a drive by at 154 lbs. That would be smart for Provodnikov, who even at 140 had a propensity to show damage on his face.

Interim WBC lightweight title action is on tap as well as belt holder Dejan Zlaticanin (21-0) defends his belt against late replacement Franklin Mamani (21-2-1) of Bolivia. Zlaticanin has been fighting at a high level for the last several years, and he holds strong wins over Petr Petrov, Ricky Burns and Ivan Redkach. As for Mamani, he has fought twice outside of his native Bolivia, going 0-2 in those fights. Very little is expected of Mamani in this one, as he stepped in for Emiliano Marsili (32-0-1) of Italy on short notice.

The closest line on the card pits middleweights Willie Monroe Jr (19-2) and John Thompson (17-2). both men are coming off losses in world title fights, as Monroe Jr lost to Gennady Golovkin in his last fight and Thompson lost to England’s Liam Smith, who holds the WBO version of the world belt. Both men are in the prime of their careers and both men need to avoid a second loss in a row that could send them taking a big step back in terms of ranking and potential paydays.
