This week, SmackDown Live expands on the Hell in a Cell fallout while looking forward towards Survivor Series. Highlights of this episode include Sin Cara returning to television to take on Baron Corbin, Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler’s Hell in a Cell rematch, and Jinder Mahal challenging Brock Lesnar to a match at Survivor Series.
Opening Segment
To kick off the show, Daniel Bryan comes to the ring to address his home state crowd. He announces two segments for the evening, including a six-woman tag pitting Natalya, Tamina, and Lana against Becky Lynch, Naomi, and Charlotte Flair. Also, WWE Champion Jinder Mahal will make a big announcement.
He is interrupted by Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, who insult him for minutes on end until the SmackDown General Manager walks away. Bryan is going to the back to find two Superstars to “punch [them] in the face.”
Charlotte Flair, Naomi, & Becky Lynch vs. Natalya, Lana, & Tamina
Last week, there was a brawl in the backstage area that involved almost everybody in the SmackDown women’s division. Naturally, that led to tonight’s six-woman tag match. At commentary, Carmella scouts the competition with her Money in the Bank briefcase on hand.
After both teams take turns eliminating each other one by one, Charlotte is left in the ring with Lana. Charlotte counters a roll-up into the Figure Eight Leglock, forcing the self-proclaimed Ravishing Russian to tap out. Natalya tries to assault Charlotte after the match, but once Charlotte grabs hold of a chair, the SmackDown Women’s Champion runs through the crowd. Winners: Charlotte Flair, Naomi, & Becky Lynch
Baron Corbin vs. Sin Cara
Before this match, nobody in the WWE Universe knew what brand Sin Cara was on. Now, he has the biggest opportunity of his career against the current United States Champion, Baron Corbin. Sin Cara’s former NXT Tag Team Championship partner, Kalisto, is currently the Cruiserweight Champion, so hopefully, he can find similar success.
Sin Cara hits Corbin faster than he can comprehend, finishing his opening flurry by jumping onto Corbin outside the ring from the ring post. Sin Cara manages to rush into the ring, but Corbin fails to beat the referee’s count. Winner (via count-out): Sin Cara
Jinder Mahal’s Survivor Series Challenge
After defeating two of the best wrestlers in the world multiple times in Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura, Jinder Mahal makes a challenge for Survivor Series. He wants to prove he is the best in all of WWE, so he challenges the Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar, to a historic match. Immediately after he issues the challenge, Mahal is interrupted by AJ Styles.
After Mahal claims that there are no more worthy opponents for his WWE Championship, Styles argues that claim. The Modern Day Maharaja then insults Styles for a bit before the former United States (and WWE) Champion attacks him and sends the champ fleeing.
Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler
At Hell in a Cell, Dolph Ziggler tried to used Bobby Roode’s tights to steal a win, but Roode countered with the same strategy for the win. Ziggler, frustrated, demanded a rematch.
After a very short and uninspired match, Ziggler uses the tights to cheat and defeat the Glorious One. Winner: Dolph Ziggler
Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura
General Manager Daniel Bryan managed to find two men to punch Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in the face: Shinsuke Nakamura and Randy Orton. Nakamura and Orton teamed up last week to defeat Aiden English and Rusev, so perhaps they could find more success together tonight.
While the referee is distracted by Kevin Owens and Shinsuke Nakamura at ringside, Sami Zayn hits Randy Orton with a low blow. Zayn follows up the dastardly action with the Helluva Kick to steal the win over a former 13-time world champion. Winners: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
Owens and Zayn taunt Bryan backstage, asking what is next for them. Bryan says that the decision isn’t up to him. Instead, it is up to Shane McMahon, who returns next week.
