SmackDown Recap: Raw Fires Back

Photo from WWE.com

Tonight is SmackDown Live’s go-home show before Survivor Series, “the only time where Raw and SmackDown compete in head to head competition.” Highlights include the New Day vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin defending the United States Championship against Sin Cara, and Charlotte Flair vs. Natalya for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Opening Segment
To kick off the show, Shane McMahon gets the entire SmackDown roster together to give them a pep talk before Survivor Series. He wants them to put their egos aside for brand supremacy and it seems like everyone is on board.

Daniel Bryan Returns
Last month, Daniel Bryan visited Monday Night Raw to propose a truce with Raw General Manager Kurt Angle but instead, he got chokeslammed by Kane. Bryan shows pride in his show and invites the new WWE Champion, AJ Styles, to the ring. He acts as Styles’ advocate and explains why Styles will beat Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series.

Baron Corbin (c) vs. Sin Cara – United States Championship
Over the past few weeks, a seemingly meaningless match between Baron Corbin and Sin Cara has led to a title match with Sin Cara looking to get revenge on Corbin for attempting to rip his lucha mask. Whoever wins this match will face the Intercontinental Champion, The Miz, this Sunday.

Sin Cara has a full head of steam but just one misstep gives Corbin the opportunity to counter with the End of Days, retaining his title. Winner, and STILL United States Champion: Baron Corbin

Natalya (c) vs. Charlotte Flair – SmackDown Women’s Championship
Like the previous title match, this could change the Survivor Series card. Whoever walks away from this with the title will face Alexa Bliss in just five days. Charlotte Flair might have the advantage with the hometown crowd of Charlotte, NC behind her. Of course, either woman could win and Carmella could cash in her Money in the Bank briefcase and be the one to face Bliss.

After escaping the Sharpshooter, Flair lays Natalya out with a big boot in the middle of the ring. She then locks in the Figure Eight Leg Lock, giving the champion no choice but to tap out. Flair takes on Bliss this Sunday, who is the only other woman to have held both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships. Winner, and NEW SmackDown Women’s Champion: Charlotte Flair

Before Charlotte makes it to the back, Ric Flair surprises her and congratulates his daughter while also making his first WWE appearance since his medical scare earlier this year.

Announcement
The Bludgeon Brothers (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan) return with their new gimmick next week.

Chad Gable (w/Shelton Benjamin) vs. Jimmy Uso (w/Jey Uso)
Last week, Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin challenged for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, but Jey Uso’s seemingly temporary knee injury stopped the match. Instead of addressing the match last week, they face off in singles competition before the Usos take on Sheamus and Cesaro at Survivor Series.

Gable gets distracted by Jey Uso at ringside, giving Jimmy Uso the perfect opportunity to hit him with a superkick, scoring the win before facing the Bar. Winner: Jimmy Uso

Big E & Xavier Woods (w/Kofi Kingston) vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
This Sunday, The New Day take on the Shield in one of two dream matches on the same night. Before then, they have to face Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, who are not even on the Survivor Series card.

As the match nears its end, Raw flips the script and the entire Raw locker room assaults all of SmackDown, with their own version of #UnderSiege. Since this all started with the Shield attacking the New Day, Big E and Xavier Woods technically win. Winners (via disqualification): Big E & Xavier Woods

After taking out the entire SmackDown locker room, Raw General Manager Kurt Angle instructs the Shield to finish off Shane McMahon with the triple powerbomb. Angle then puts an exclamation point on the whole raid with an Angle Slam to SmackDown Live’s Commissioner and one more triple powerbomb.
