SmackDown Recap: Shane O’Mac Joins Team SD

Just like Monday Night Raw last night, SmackDown Live also hails from Glagsgow, Scotland this week. Along with figuring out the last confirmed tag team to represent SmackDown at Survivor Series, the headline match for the night is Becky Lynch defending the Women’s Championship against Alexa Bliss.

Opening Segment
WWE World Champion AJ Styles makes his way down to the ring to address the result of last week’s main event. With the help of James Ellsworth, Dean Ambrose defeated Styles to earn a WWE World Championship opportunity. This has resulted in a scheduled TLC match for the belt at the Pay-Per-View of the same name.

Styles, the captain for Team SmackDown at Survivor Series, gets his teammates down to the ring. After Ambrose brings Ellsworth to the ring, tensions get a little high. Shane McMahon interrupts to settle everybody down, and names James Ellsworth the official team mascot of SmackDown.

The Vaudevillains vs. Breezango – Survivor Series Qualifying Match
This is the first time in a long time that we’ve seen Breezango, and they have a huge opportunity in their return to action. Whoever wins this match will be the last tag team to represent SmackDown at Survivor Series, joining Heath Slater and Rhyno, the Hype Bros, The Usos, and American Alpha.

After a Falcon Arrow to Aiden English, Fandango picks up the unexpectedly quick victory for his team, and now his team needs to prepare for their battle against Team Raw. Winners: Breezango

Natalya vs. Naomi
Naomi was the last confirmed member of SmackDown’s female Survivor Series team, alongside Becky Lynch, Carmella, Alexa Bliss, and team captain Nikki Bella. While Natalya wasn’t put on the team, she convinced the Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan to make her the coach.

Carmella comes down to ringside to get in the face of Nikki Bella (who is on commentary for this match), and Natalya tries to separate them as the coach of their future team. When Natalya gets back in the ring, Naomi rolls her up for the quick win. Winner: Naomi

Backstage Segment
Baron Corbin opted out of a planned 6-man tag match, and now has a match against the returning Kalisto. Dean Ambrose and James Ellsworth need a teammate against The Wyatt Family (including Randy Orton), and Daniel Bryan found one for them: Kane.

Baron Corbin vs. Kalisto
Three months ago, Baron Corbin constantly attacked Kalisto backstage after Kalisto “cost” him a #1 Contender opportunity for the Intercontinental Championship. These attacks would end up injuring Kalisto, and now the luchador returns from injury.

Before the match, Corbin attacks Kalisto, but the brawl ends after Corbin hurts his knee.

Becky Lynch (c) vs. Alexa Bliss – SmackDown Women’s Championship
Becky Lynch was supposed to defend her Women’s Championship against Alexa Bliss at No Mercy, but the match was postponed until tonight due to a medical issue. Bliss has seemed to get the better of Lynch in most of their encounters, ending promo segments by leaving the champion laid out. Now that Bliss can’t take any cheap shots, it is time for her to prove whether or not she can put Lynch away when it matters most.

Becky Lynch submits Alexa Bliss with the Disarm-her, but the referee didn’t see that Bliss had her foot on the rope. There’s a fair chance that this finish means that Bliss will have another championship opportunity. Winner, and STILL SmackDown Women’s Champion: Becky Lynch

Backstage Segment
Since Dolph Ziggler is defending the Intercontinental Championship against Monday Night Raw’s Sami Zayn, Mick Foley made things even. Brian Kendrick will defend the Cruiserweight Championship against SmackDown’s Kalisto, and if Kalisto wins, SmackDown gets the title and the entire Cruiserweight Division.

Following this announcement was a match scheduled for next week. On the 900th episode of SmackDown, the Miz will have his Intercontinental Championship rematch against Dolph Ziggler. Assumedly if the Miz wins, it will be him against Sami Zayn at Survivor Series.

Apollo Crews vs. Curt Hawkins
After months of anticipation, Curt Hawkins made his debut/return last week when he lost an Intercontinental Championship match against Dolph Ziggler in less than half a minute. The week prior, he took a cheap shot at Apollo Crews when they were scheduled for a match. Two weeks after their altercation, they finally face off.

Crews misses a cross body from the top rope, and Hawkins takes advantage to roll up Crews and steal the victory. Winner: Curt Hawkins

The Wyatt Family vs. Dean Ambrose, James Ellsworth, & Kane
Unlike Raw, where team unity is achieved by having everyone fight each other, only three competitors in this match are on the same team for Survivor Series. Luke Harper, Kane, and James Ellsworth aren’t competing in the elimination tag team match, so it is more possible for SmackDown’s team to get on the same page than Raw’s.

Ellsworth tags in and tries to hit Bray Wyatt with No Chin Music, but Wyatt quickly counters into Sister Abigail, leading into the quick 1-2-3. Winners: The Wyatt Family

After the match, Daniel Bryan comes down to the ring. Due to Baron Corbin’s injury earlier tonight, Bryan has to name a replacement for Survivor Series. Instead of picking any of the wrestlers on the roster, Team SmackDown enlists its own commissioner, Shane McMahon.
