The Southern Utah Thunderbirds (4-1) and the Long Beach State 49ers (2-7), who both like to play up-tempo, will clash at The Walter Pyramid. The game begins at 10 p.m. ET on Wednesday, December 5, 2018.

The Thunderbirds will be looking for similar success after dismantling the West Coast Baptist Eagles in their last game, 109-63. The Thunderbirds had a much better turnover percentage (9.9 vs. 32.0) and had a much better offensive rebounding percentage (33.3 vs. 17.1). Southern Utah was lifted by Dwayne Morgan, who led the team in scoring with 20 points on 8-for-13 shooting.

In the 49ers’ last game, they were beaten by the No. 21 UCLA Bruins, 91-80. UCLA’s 0.563 effective field goal percentage was their largest advantage over Long Beach State, who had a mark of 0.484. Long Beach State’s Deishuan Booker had a solid game, leading both teams in scoring with 31 points on 9-for-14 shooting.

The Thunderbirds won the sole contest against the 49ers last season, 94-89. Southern Utah had a much better offensive rebounding percentage (29.4 vs. 15.6). Long Beach State, on the other hand, did a great job of converting from the free throw line (21-27; 77.8 percent).

There should be plenty of transition action in this contest that showcases a pair of the NCAA’s more fast-paced teams. Long Beach State ranks 56th in possessions per game (72.6) and Southern Utah is 38th (73.3) since last season.
