The Speak Up Podcast – Episode 1

Speak Up

The ‘Speak Up’ Podcast is now a thing, so make it a priority to check out our new show here at GMS. Officially it will be recognized as the Rainmaker Radio Show, but Speak Up just sounds like a little more fun!

Ej is back on the air again, and it is time to continue interviewing sports athletes, authors, and personalities. After four years of Sports Palooza Radio, we have decided to revamp the show, and bring it you here.

This week, Fergie Jenkins takes the time to hang out on the show. Fergie is, of course, an MLB Hall of Famer, and he earned it with multiple 20-win season’s in his pitching career. Drafted my the Phillies, Jenkins made a name for himself with the Cubs, and also made quite an impression with the Texas Rangers.

Ever wonder what went in to the decision for Fergie to go in the Hall as a Cub or a Ranger? He had his choice, and we obviously know how that turned out.

Is there a story behind why Fergie chose the #31 to wear on his jersey? Certainly there is, and now you can find out how and why it happened. He and Greg Maddux both had their #31 retired by the Chicago Cubs back in 2009, so no player will have the honor of wearing it again.

Fergie even brought us back to when the Cubs didn’t have names on their uniforms.

It was also fun making the comparison of pitchers in his generation, to the generation of today. Fergie, of course, was throwing 300 innings and making 40 starts a season. That was when the expectation was to START and FINISH the game.

We discuss some of the recent rule changes, and how video has influenced the game today. Imagine if they had that ability then?

We thank Fergie Jenkins for his time, and appreciate him being the first guest on the Rainmaker Radio Show!

Remember. Don’t shut up; SPEAK UP!
