Sports Betting Tips With Chris Sheridan Episode 11: Michael Jordan Stories, Sports Betting

NBA

From Michael Jordan stories to the new sports betting landscape, Episode 11 of the Sports Betting Tips podcast covers a wide range of topics and is now available on all platforms. Veteran NBA journalist Chris Sheridan is joined by American sports commentator and former Chicago Sun-Times writer Jay Mariotti as they focus on the new sports betting outlook in the United States and what it means for bettors.

After the two veterans recanted some memorable Michael Jordan stories, the conversation shifted to sports betting and the new landscape that’s been created in the United States. With the Supreme Court allowing states to individually decide as to whether they want to legalize sports betting, it’s opened the door for more shops to offer to take bets.

“From what I’m hearing, Adam Silver wants to put betting windows in his arenas,” says Mariotti, a long-time veteran in the sports media industry. While it’s true that we could see a number of new outlets accepting bets, many land-based sportsbooks are still years behind online models, which are far more efficient. We’ve already seen that early on as certain casinos are charging incredibly high prices in terms of the juice. Beyond that, very few places offer live, in-game betting, which is a big feature that attracts customers to bet online.

At any rate, now that sports betting is out of the dark and into the limelight in the American market, this is only good news for sports bettors and fans. There will no longer be such a negative stigma attached to one of the most popular pastimes.

“We’ve already seen it with fantasy,” says Mariotti. “I’ll be out on a Sunday watching the game at a bar and the game I’m watching has been decided in the third quarter, but not so with the fantasy guys sitting at the next table. They’re watching to the bitter end and the NFL loves that”.
