Scott Brooks In Trouble?
The talented Washington Wizards are off to a miserable 2-8 start. The Cavs (1-9) are the only team in the NBA with a worse record.
Hsu, the most widely read NBA writer in China, noted that though “Scott Brooks is a very good coach and really good guy.” The NBA is a players’ league.
“If there has to be one guy to blame it on in this league, it’s always the head coach,” she pointed out.
The Wizards just got Dwight Howard back from injury, though, so management may give Brooks some time.
“They seem to be somewhat dysfunctional,” Gonzalez said. “I don’t know the answer.”
Jimmy Butler
Butler’s dissatisfaction in Minnesota has been the biggest story in the NBA so far this season. Gonzalez said he thinks Houston is “gonna find a way to get it done” behind general manager Daryl Morey.
Hsu said Miami is another viable option, particularly if Butler is concerned about his legacy. She said you can “never count out Pat Riley.”
Gonzalez coached against Butler in college.
“I don’t know if he’s changed a lot as a person, but he’s kind of different from what I remember,” Gonzalez said.
The Chinese Basketball Association
Later in the podcast, Chris and Gonzalez spoke about the coach’s eight games in China to date. He has coached against well-known players like Jared Sullinger, Tyler Hansbrough, Pierre Jackson (a “heck of a little player”), Russ Smith, and Jimmer Fredette.
Coach said it’s been a “great learning experience” and shared some hilarious stories about his time abroad.
