Stanford Cardinal – Washington State Cougars Preview – 02.18.2016

The Stanford Cardinal (12-11) will travel to Wallis Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum to compete against the Washington State Cougars (9-16) in their home finale. The game begins at 10:00 pm ET on Thursday, Feb. 18 and can be seen on PAC.

The Cougars were blown out by Utah 88-47 on Sunday. Que Johnson was the team’s high scorer, putting up 13 points. The Cardinal, meanwhile, are coming off a 76-72 win over Oregon on Saturday. Rosco Allen led the game in scoring with 25 points on 9-for-12 shooting.

The Cougars enter the game with records of 9-16 Straight Up (SU) and 10-14 Against The Spread (ATS). Opponents have consistently had their shots rejected by the Cougars, ranking 49th in the country in blocks per game with 4.8.

On the other side, Stanford has a SU record of 12-11 and an ATS record of 8-12-1. Stanford has been particularly bad ATS over its past 10 matchups, going 2-8. The last 10 games have really brought the worst out of the Cardinal on the defensive end. They allowed 82.7 points per game during that span, which is higher than their season average of 69.5.

These conference foes will be facing off in their first head-to-head clash of the season. When they last met the Cougars were winners, but the win was not enough for them to overtake Stanford in their recent head-to-head series. Their record is now 3-7 SU over the last few meetings. The teams are even ATS, with a 4-4-2 record. Stanford held the edge in field goals, rebounds, and three-pointers once, while Washington State was never able to do so in their most recent five games.
