Super Bowl Sunday is a prop bettor’s dream. Game props, half-time props and broadcaster props draw a lot of betting action. We will take a look at a cross-sports prop involving Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff and Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving. The question is simple: Which will be higher? Kyrie Irving’s point total in Boston’s Sunday matchup versus Oklahoma City or the number of pass completions by Jared Goff in Super Bowl 53?
Which Will Be Higher? Kyrie Irving Points or Jared Goff Completions?
Kyrie Irving Points: -115
Jared Goff Completions: -115
Let’s begin by taking a look at Irving who is averaging 23.5 points per game this season. He has been scoring 24.9 points so far in January. His high mark of the month was 38 points against the struggling Grizzlies, while his 12-point outing versus Indiana marked his monthly low. In Boston’s only meeting with the Thunder this season, Irving managed just 15 points in 34 minutes of playing time in a 101-95 victory.

Boston faced Oklahoma City two times last year but Irving only played in the first game, posting 25 points in 34 minutes. His last two outings this year have resulted in 24 points and 26 points. So, knowing all of this, it is pretty safe to say that Irving should reach a point total of 23 to 25 points.
Goff has had a pretty good year. His 4,688 passing yards was the league’s fourth-highest total while his 32 TD passes was sixth best. In Los Angeles’ controversial overtime win versus New Orleans, Goff attempted 40 passes and connected on 25 of them. In the NFC Divisional Playoff game versus Dallas, the Rams mainly ran the ball and Goff attempted just 28 passes with 15 of those finding their mark.
Including the two playoff games, Goff has averaged 22.44 completions on 39.4 pass attempts this season. One of the biggest factors in trying to figure out how many pass attempts Goff will make is obviously Los Angeles’ game plan. We can likely expect the Rams offense to run the ball a lot in the early stages and even later into the game if they don’t fall too far behind. The Pats gave up 4.9 yards per carry this season which was tied for the third-worst average yards per carry against in the NFL. Los Angeles has a very good running attack between Todd Gurley and C.J. Anderson and they will use it.
Did you know that opposing quarterbacks completed just 61.2 percent of their passes against the Patriots? That was the second-lowest total in the league. The average number of completions against them per game was just over 23. Also, New England’s defense allowed just 6.9 yards per completion which was among the best in the league.
In his 18 games this year, Goff has completed 24 or more passes nine times. Against teams with winning records, Goff completed 24 or more passes in seven of ten games. Against teams with losing records, Goff completed 24 or more passes in just two of those eight games. He completed an average of 26 passes per game against teams with winning records. This prop bet is a very tough one to call but Goff’s performances against winning teams indicates that he should be able to put up at least 24 completions. It would be safe to add in a couple more to that total based on the fact that this game could be back and forth. Goff seems to be more likely to complete more passes that Irving’s point total against Oklahoma.
My Pick: Jared Goff Pass Completions -115
