Super Bowl Odds: The Seattle Seahawks opened up as the favorite in Super Bowl XLIX against the New England Patriots but money came in quickly on the Patriots and now the Super Bowl line is a pick. The total on the game hasn’t moved much as it opened at 49 and is now 48.5.
Let’s look at some Super Bowl betting notes.
Super Bowl XLIX
The Seattle Seahawks meet the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX on Sunday, Feb. 1 in a game that can be seen on NBC. The NFC has won 26 of the previous 48 Super Bowls while the AFC has 22 wins. The Pittsburgh Steelers hold the all-time record with six wins while the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers have five. Super Bowl XLIX odds have the game listed as a pick ’em, so there will be no favorite or underdog in the game for the first time in history.
There have been two previous instances where there was a team favored by just one point, as in Super Bowl VII when it was the Dolphins favored by one point against the Redskins while the 49ers were favored by one point against the Bengals in Super Bowl XVI.
Poor Opening Number Set in Vegas
The opening number for Super Bowl XLIX was a bad one in Las Vegas as a couple of sportsbooks had the Seahawks as a 2.5 or three-point favorite. That number was a major mistake and wise guy bettors jumped all over the Patriots to drive the line down to a pick. The Super Bowl odds probably won’t move much in the next week or so but if the line does move it will likely go towards New England as they could end up as a one or 1.5-point favorite by game time.
Last year, the Seahawks opened up as a favorite but by game time they were 2.5-point underdogs against the Broncos.
Seattle Seahawks vs. New England Patriots
This will be the second straight season No. 1 seeds will be meeting in the Super Bowl and the 11th time in Super Bowl history. Last season, it was the Seahawks rolling over the Broncos, 43-8. The Seahawks and Patriots last met two years ago in Seattle and the Seahawks overcame a 23-10 deficit to win 24-23. That game was just the sixth-career start for Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson.
The Seahawks ranked first this season in total defense, while the Patriots ranked fourth in scoring offense. The Seahawks have done really well over the years against the Patriots, winning six of the past eight meetings.
