Perfect Super Bowl Trend

Did you know there is a perfect trend that is 12-0 in Super Bowls? Teams that return an interception for a TD are 12-0 in the big game. It is nearly impossible to predict if a team will return an interception for a score but it sure is an interesting trend. Just so you know, Russell Wilson has thrown only one pick six in his career while Tom Brady has thrown two. The Seahawks have returned three interceptions for touchdowns this season while the Patriots have returned none.

Favorites are 25-21-2 ATS. The totals are 24-23 in favor of the over as there was no total in Super Bowl I. The last five times that a team returned to the Super Bowl for the second straight year and was listed as an underdog they lost every time. It happened with Minnesota in Super Bowl IX, Dallas in Super Bowl XIII and Buffalo in Super Bowl XXVI, XXVII and XXVIII.

Quarterbacks have won six of the last Super Bowl MVP awards.

The Patriots and Seahawks are a combined 18-2 when they win the opening coin toss this season. They are 10-6 combined when they lose the toss. Both teams are second half teams as they have combined to allow just three second half TDs in their last 16 games. The Seahawks are the first team since the 1985-1986 Chicago Bears to lead the league in defense in consecutive seasons.

The Patriots scored 36.8 points per game during the regular season in 2007 but they then scored just 14 points in the Super Bowl. They scored 32.1 points per game in 2011 but then scored just 17 in the Super Bowl.

The Patriots are 9-3 against the spread this season vs. a team with a winning record. They have struggled in recent years in the playoffs as they are just 4-11 ATS in their last 15 playoff games. They have also been a bad bet in the Super Bowl as they are 0-4 ATS in their last four Super Bowls. The Seahawks are 19-7-1 against the spread vs. a team with a winning record. They have been a decent team in the playoffs, going 5-2 ATS in their last seven playoff games. The Under is 4-1 in the Patriots last five Super Bowl games.
