SC WERDER BREMEN
After receiving a big scare in the first part of the German Bundesliga season Werder’s fans have been ecstatic in the last couple of months after the team went to the top gear and recorder nine wins in 11 games with no losses. The SC Werder Bremen got through three different low form periods (streak of four consecutive losses) that endangered the team’s position in the top German Bundesliga and put the survival in question. But after the 0:1 home loss by the Monchengladbach on February 11th, the team started the rampaging streak of great performances and now they are even in the position to fight for the spot that leads to Europa League competition next year.
Currently, the team ranks eighth in the German Bundesliga table with 45 points in 32 matches, only two points above the spot that would definitely save the season. The Green Whites are 6-1-1 in the last eight matchups and they are riding a five games winning streak at home. Overall record at Weser is 8-1-7 with 25-19 goal difference (55-55 overall) and they have managed to score in 94% of their home matches including at least one goal in each of their last 12 overall games.
Team ranks 11th in the home league table with 25 of possible 48 points earned and 75% of Werder’s total matches had over 2.5 goals but only 6% of their home games had over 3.5 goals in total. They managed to score at least one goal in both halves in 31% of their matches in front of their own crowd and they managed to concede at least one goal in both halves in 28% of their total matchups. Both teams scored in 69% of their home games and most common score at home is a 2:1 loss (occurred five times) while most common score at the halftime was 1:0 lead (occurred six times).
Striker Max Kruse along with the midfielder Serge Gnabry lead the team in scoring with 14 and 11 goals. Top assisters are midfield virtuosos Fin Bartels and Zlatko Junuzovic with seven assists each while passing segment belongs to Niklas Moisander with 980 total passes. Goalies Jaroslav Drobny (10 appearances) and Felix Wiedwald (23 appearances) collected 112 saves and they also have six games with clean sheets so far.
Moisander is suspended for the next match because of the number of yellow cards while Luca Caldirola (Broken Foot), Eric Oelschlagel (Elbow) Clemens Fritz (Ankle) and Izet Hajrovic (Cruciate ligament) are all out for the season. Zlatko Junuzovic (Illness) is doubtful while Johannes Eggestein’s (Illness, Foot) status is unknown. Ousman Manneh (Thigh) and Santiago Garcia (Neck) are back in training.
TSG 1899 HOFFENHEIM
When we put everything on the table, we can say with certainty that this has been a very successful German Bundesliga season for the team from Sinsheim. Champions League sounds good but Europa League is also a big accomplishment for one of the youngest clubs in Germany. The confidence might be shook down after the loss by their main opponent in the battle for the third and final spot that leads to Champions League, Borussia Dortmund in last round but Hoffenheim has showed that they know how to bounce back in numerous occasions this year.
Currently, team ranks fourth with 58 points in 32 games, two points fewer that Dortmund that leapfrogged them last weekend. One battle might be lost but the war is still on and two points deficit is not out of the reach in last two rounds, especially if they get back from Bremen with full prey. The Kraichgauers are 5-1-2 in last eight games but they are 1-1-2 in last four road games (winless in last three visits). Overall record on the road is 4-8-4 with 24-20 goal difference (59-34 overall) and they rank third in the road league table with 20 of 48 possible points earned.
They have managed to score in 94% of their away games including at least one goal scored in each of their last nine road matches. They have also accomplished a seemingly unbelievable task of scoring at least one goal in each of their last 18 overall matches (longest active streak at the moment in Germany) and both team scored in 81% of their visiting games. %0% of the team’s road games had over 2.5 goals while only 12% of those games had over 3.5 goals in total. Most common result on the road is a 1:1 draw (occurred six times) and most common score at the halftime is 0:0 (occurred six times).
Strikers Andrej Kramaric and Sandro Wagner top the team in scoring with 13 and 11 goals while Kramaric also leads the team in assists with eight along with Kerem Demirbay and Sebastian Rudy who have seven each. Passing segment belongs to Niklas Sule and Kevin Vogt who collected 1844 and 1700 total passes so far. Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann has 107 saves with 11 clean sheets games.
Hoffenheim doesn’t have injured players at the moment.
SV Werder Bremen vs. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim – Match Prediction
Everything indicates a high-scoring game but I’m not so sure about that. I’m also not sure how the home team will react after losing the first game in more than three months. My bet here will be a little upset by the guests and I will go with Sinsheim’s team to win. We all knew that Werder’s winning ways must have an end and I have a feeling that they might start a winless streak this weekend. A possibility of both teams scoring is very high but I still think that the teams will not go over 3 goals.
My pick: TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (+163)
Additional Pick: Under 3.5 goals (-105)
