The latest Talk ‘n’ Shoot Podcast on retro and historic boxing themes is back, and host Miguel Iturrate is joined by Mythical Boxing’s Dave Siderski and by Chicago area promoter Mike Davis to discuss dream matchups. Current champions were matched against all-time historic champions in their weight classes. Check out the results and enjoy the discussion. Do the overall results favor the modern day warriors or the old school greats?
Gennady Golovkin vs Marvelous Marvin Hagler (Prediction: Hagler, TKO 9)
Golovkin is the hot name in the middleweight division over the past few years and he is currently ranked No. 1 in the world in the weight class. But how would he fair in a series against Hagler, who is almost unanimously considered an all-time great. According to the sim, Triple “G” still has a ways to go before he can be considered on Hagler’s level. Just how disparate were the numbers over 100 simulations?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs “Sugar” Ray Leonard (Prediction: Leonard, UD – 146-139, 146-139, 146-140)
This was a simulation at 147 lbs (the welterweight division) in what was termed a “battle of divas.” For this one, Siderski gives his expert analysis based on extensive review of film. A wide variety of options as to what this fight would look like took place, as Mayweather is likely to be best suited in lower weight classes.
Manny Pacquiao vs Alexis Arguello (Prediction: Arguello, TKO 14)
This match-up was done at Lightweight 130 lbs, as the two all-time greats were at their best in that weight class. Arguello and Pacquiao were discussed as iconic figures in the sport of boxing as well, as Arguello went on to become a politician in his home country of Nicaragua, and Pacquiao also has a future in politics in his native Philippines. Both men are world champions in multiple weight classes and both had an aggressive style.

Primo Carnera vs Wladimir Klitschko (Prediction: Klitschko, TKO 7)
The battle of the giants! Carnera comes down through history with little respect in some boxing circles. There were many similarities between the two, including a European background that sees both not given the credit they deserve in the United States. Klitschko hold every major title in the Heavyweight division except for the one his brother held for a long time, while Carnera was the heavyweight Champion of the World while their was only one.
The write-ups for each fight give a fictitious account that gives a definitive outcome to one fight, as seen above. The write-up is based on a run of 100 simulations however, and it is in those numbers that some of the discussions really get interesting.
