The Talk ‘n’ Shoot Podcast enters new territory with a State of MMA podcast, as we get in depth into this weekend’s Bellator and UFC events, as well as analyzing how these events are affected by the recent hot-button topic of PED use.
Bellator 138 is scheduled to go down Friday night in St Louis, Missouri, and the main event of that card is scheduled to be Kimbo Slice vs Ken Shamrock. By doing the show in Missouri, a state with a short staffed, under-funded boxing commission is Bellator flat out ignoring the UFC’s drug policy, passing the buck to a local commission that will not be able to afford anything like the level of testing of the Nevada Commission? They appear to have no plans to institute any type of policy, ands indeed have remained completely mum on the subject.
The UFC is in Germany, and despite their recent announcement of a new stringent policy that is looking to stamp out usage of performance enhancing drugs completely, there are still open questions about the logistics of the testing and how it is going to be handled. This UFC card has only one out of the 30 fighters on the card is hailing from the United States, and in most of Europe, MMA is still an unregulated sport where absolutely no testing is being done.
The new drug policies that have come with 2015 are still sending waves of repercussions throughout the sport, and the landscape has changed a great deal in the last year.
