The time has come to name our Greatest Boxer of All-Time. It has been a long discussion that started with about 30 names, and after several hours and podcasts, just four men remain. We will look at the semifinal matchups that feature contemporaries as Willie Pep and Ezzard Charles meet, and for the second matchup we pit Sugar Ray Robinson against Muhammad Ali in a matchup that spans the generations. The combined record of the final four legendary fighters? An astounding 553-60-8.
We are once again joined by Dave Siderski, the man behind “Mythical Boxing”, who joins us to discuss each match at length and discuss what some of these fights would have looked like in-ring time. The discussion gets into a wide range of topics for this one, as the matchups are looked at with some historical context, and a wide range of topics come up around. At this point, all four fighters left are not only top boxers, but in many ways each is a historical figure that to some extent or another transcended boxing.
Dave masterfully takes us through a play by play of the simulated fight that are both realistic and entertaining. The podcast series will be periodically repeating this exercise, especially as more historical data comes into the light.
