Any news this time of year is typically bad news, and TCU received some over the weekend. On Saturday, it was reported that Cole Bunce may miss the entire 2019 season.

TCU head coach Gary Patterson spoke with reporters and indicated that Bunce needed emergency surgery following the accident. He didn’t provide any specifics on Bunce’s injuries, but the severity of the kicker’s injuries was relayed in this quote:
“We might have lost Cole Bunce for the season. On his way over on the morning we were checking in he got hit by a car on his scooter. He had to have an emergency operation, I can;t tell you what, but I don’t think he is going to be able to play the rest of the year.”
ESPN obtained a police report from the Fort Worth Police Department regarding the incident. The report states that Bunce was driving his scooter at around 10 a.m. ET on Thursday morning when a car improperly turned in front of him. Bunce struck the car and was knocked off his scooter, and he was immediately transported to a local hospital after the incident.
The driver of the car was cited by police for failure to yield.
Bunce has been TCU’s kickoff specialist in each of his first three seasons with the Horned Frogs. Last year, he also served as one of the team’s field goal kickers too. Bunce went 12-12 on extra points, but he only managed to go 4-9 on field goals with a long of 41 yards.
Bunce’s injury means that Jonathan Song will likely be asked to handle the kickoff duties as well. Song has not been responsible for kickoffs since Bunce joined the team in 2016, and he only has attempted two kickoffs in his collegiate career. He went 9-12 on field goals last year with a long of 46 yards.
