Los Angeles Clippers guard Landry Shamet is the latest player to decide not to take part in USA Basketball training camp. Team USA will begin its training camp on August 5 in Las Vegas in preparation for the upcoming FIBA World Cup in China.

Shamet was invited to participate for USA Basketball Select Team camp, a squad that will face Team USA in an exhibition game. However, according to his agent George Langberg, he decided to withdraw and turn his attention to the 2019-20 campaign with the Los Angeles Clippers.

“He was appreciative of the opportunity and hopes to be part of USAB again in future,” Langberg told ESPN.

A deep playoff run is expected from the Clippers next season after acquiring Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Shamet wants to have more time to prepare for the long campaign and also to spend more time with his new teammates.

It will be the second NBA season for Landry Shamet, who averaged 9.1 points and 1.7 rebounds in 79 games last year, representing the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers.

Shamet is just one of many players who decided to either decline an invitation to play for Team USA in the FIBA World Cup or to withdraw from the team.
