It’s been a miserable start to the season for the Tennessee Volunteers. The team is out to an 0-2 start, and some are already calling for head coach Jeremy Pruitt to be fired after just his second season in charge of the program. He certainly didn’t help himself on Monday when he compared the state of Tennessee football to the Titanic during a meeting with the Knoxville Quarterback Club on Monday afternoon.

While addressing an audience of around 200 people, Jeremy Pruitt made the unfortunate comparison saying:
“When the boat starts going down, remember all those mice running to the top, right?” Pruitt said to the Knoxville Quarterback Club on Monday. “We have had a few that’s left our program, but you will figure out who wants to be a Tennessee Vol and who don’t.
“I can tell you this: I want to. I know the standards and expectations that we have and the men on our staff and the character that we have. You will see the best of the players at Tennessee throughout the year.”
Tennessee has been arguably the most disappointing program in the country through the first two weeks of the season. The Volunteers were manhandled in the trenches on both sides of the ball in a 38-30 loss to Georgia State in their opener, and they blew a double-digit halftime lead in an overtime loss to BYU on Saturday. Both of the losses came at home in Knoxville, adding further consternation among supporters of the program.
The Vols should register their first win of the season against FCS Chattanooga on Saturday, but the schedule is brutal after that. Tennessee travels to Florida and Alabama and hosts Georgia and Mississippi State over its next four games. The Volunteers are going to be double-digit underdogs in three of those four games.
