As the days tick by without a signature on his franchise tender, the likelihood of Houston Texans pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney suiting up for the team again grows smaller.
Tuesday, rumors swirled that multiple teams were inquiring about a possible trade with the Texans, specifically the Miami Dolphins. There’s also a chance the Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles are in the mix.
According to the NFL Network, Clowney has actually met with the Miami Dolphins and head coach Brian Flores about a possible trade that could include Houston acquiring offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil. With so many Dolphins on the block, like Kiko Alonso and Kenny Stills, the Texans could probably pluck away one of those guys in the deal as well.
#Texans franchised pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney has met in person with #Dolphins coach Brian Flores and other members of the organization’s brass, sources say. There has been speculation that Miami is a possible landing spot.

Miami, though, is not a realistic contender for the postseason and Clowney obviously has his sites set higher. He’s reportedly made it clear he’d much rather go to the Seahawks or Eagles, and while both those teams would be interested in his services, Seattle spent the offseason shedding contracts, even shipping their own pass rusher, Frank Clark, out of town in a trade for picks with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Clowney, who is looking for Clark-like money, doesn’t seem like a realistic option for the Seahawks. Philadelphia, on the other hand, is sitting on $18.708 million in available cap space this season, even with the new Carson Wentz contract. That looks like a deal that should happen to me.
For his part in the negotiation process, Clowney has fired his agent, Bus Cook, so new representation may heat up the action here in the final week of the preseason.
Unhappy with the state of talks about his future, Jadeveon Clowney recently fired his longtime agent, Bus Cook, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo. Clowney was originally expected to report to the #Texans this week, but has yet to sign his franchise tender.

Keke Coutee will likely miss Week 1
Houston Texans wide receiver Keke Coutee returned to practice Monday, but head coach Bill O’Brien doesn’t expect him to be 100 percent for the season opening game against New Orleans Saints.
Bill O’Brien said he is “not hopeful” that WR Keke Coutee will play in the season opener.

Coutee is dealing with a sprained ankle. He lost 10 games last season over Hamstring issues. This could make the prospect of adding Stills to the roster a solid proposition for Houston.
