The No. 10 TCU Horned Frogs are coming off their first loss of the season after falling to Iowa State 14-7 on the road last week. The Hawkeyes were able to absolutely shut down the TCU offense and end their perfect season. TCU shot themselves in the foot as Kenny Hill threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. But with Iowa State now beating Oklahoma and TCU, they are ranked in the Top 25. Maybe the loss to Iowa State will be excusable later on in the season.
At any rate, the Horned Frogs will attempt to bounce back at home against another tough defense when they host the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night in Fort Worth. TCU is listed as a seven-point favorite but can’t afford a letdown against a Texas side that is very capable of pulling off the upset on the road this weekend. Texas is 4-4 on the season and is aiming for a bowl berth. Outside of their season-opening loss to Maryland, each of their defeats have been very close, including USC, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

Reasons To Bet On The Texas Longhorns
Texas delivered another solid performance in last week’s 38-7 win over Baylor last week. The Longhorns defense absolutely smothered the Bears while the offense exploded for 38 points just one week after being held to 10 in a loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Texas needs its defense to step up again this week in order to take some of the pressure off of the offense. Quarterback Shane Buechele threw for 256 yards and a touchdown with an interception against Baylor. Meanwhile, Buechele, Toneil Carter and Daniel Young combined to rush for 172 yards and three touchdowns. That rushing attack will be key to the Longhorns success on offense again this week. If they can run the football at a high level and shut things down defensively then they should have a good chance to at least keep it close against the Horned Frogs this weekend.
Reasons To Bet On The TCU Horned Frogs
The TCU offense hit a wall in the loss to Iowa State, managing just a single score. Senior quarterback Kenny Hill was held to just 135 passing yards with two interceptions on 12-of-25 passing. Few predicted Hill would struggle so badly just one week after he torched the Kansas defense for 278 yards and five touchdowns in a 43-0 win. TCU will need Hill to be at his best in order to bounce back at home this weekend. Meanwhile, the Horned Frogs defense will be put to the test once again. TCU did a good job of slowing down the Iowa State offense last week but the offense just couldn’t put enough points on the board. There will be an added sense of urgency on both sides of the football this week as the Horned Frogs attempt to bounce back from their first loss of the season.
Outlook
Taking a closer look at the betting line, TCU opened up as an eight-point favorite. However, the action has come in on Texas and now we see the line sitting at -7. We could see this line drop under seven as Texas is currently +7 -115. The total opened up at 46 but the line has climbed up to 47.
For as terrible as the TCU offense looked in last week’s loss, there is every reason to expect them to bounce back with a much better performance this week. The Horned Frogs are absolutely loaded on offense and they should have a renewed sense of focus after last week’s loss. Meanwhile, the Texas defense has performed at a high level in each of the last two weeks but the offense has been inconsistent at best. As long as TCU can slow down the Longhorns rushing attack they should be able to bounce back with a win at home on Saturday night.
Pick: TCU -7
