Texas Tech DB Retires, ‘Last Chance U’ HC Indicted

Football is tough. Dozens of college football players are forced to quit the game because of injuries every year, and Texas Tech’s Octavious Morgan was the most recent player to make that decision. News broke that Morgan was planning to medically retire yesterday, and the Red Raiders will certain miss the senior cornerback.

Morgan was slated to be one of the Red Raiders’ starting cornerbacks last season, but he suffered a major knee injury in practice prior to the first game of the year. He missed the rest of the year as a result, and he was hoping to return for his final year in 2019. However, it appears the knee is still an issue, so Morgan will instead focus on finishing his degree.

The bad news continues to mount for former Independence Community College head coach Jason Brown. Brown became famous as the team’s head coach after being featured on ‘Last Chance U’, but he resigned in late February after making some troubling comments. Things have gone from bad to worse with the news that he is being charged with eight felonies for allegedly contriving a fictitious persona. Brown allegedly pretended to be a lawyer from a law firm out in California in what is a very bizarre story.

Finally, a newly hired assistant with the Louisville Cardinals is probably not going to be on Scott Satterfield’s staff for much longer. Quality control assistant Cortney Braswell was brought on by Satterfield in January after spending time as a high school head coach for Ridgeland High School in Rossville, Georgia and Central High School in Harrison, Tennessee. Some alleged malfeasance occurred during his time at Central, leading to his arrest.
