Alicia Keys Scores Big on The Voice Blind Auditions

It’s the next round of auditions on NBC’s The Voice and in this one-hour episode we’ll find out if Kelly Clarkson uses her block — the only block left and who Alicia Keys got on her team that made all four judges stand up. The Voice contestants are:

Spensha Baker, 24, San Antonio, Texas: Spensha grew up singing gospel music and when she was only 11 years old, she signed as a gospel artist for a major label. She toured for three years and then the company parted ways with her. She fell in love with country music over the years and then stopped singing when she lost the passion. She works in real estate now and isn’t as fulfilled, of course, and her mother asked her to audition for The Voice. She auditions with a gentle, not overpowering version of “Blackbird,” and Kelly and Blake count down and hit their buttons together. Spensha chooses Blake.

Alexa Cappelli, 18, Upland, California: A self-professed shy kid, she attends an art school and said that arts have brought her out of her shell. She auditions with “I’ve Got the Music in Me.” Kelly hits her button, followed immediately by Adam. After talking about how she loves Kelly and has auditioned with one of Kelly’s songs, of course, we knew what way she would go. This girl has pipes. Alexa chooses Kelly.

Adriana Brannan, 25, Ventura, California: She sings at rodeos and lives in her truck going from place to place. She has an amazing operatic voice but sings country music now. Auditions with “Two More Bottles of Wine.” Her lower register gets a little shaky at spots, but she seems like a natural for country. Unfortunately, nobody turns and Kelly explains that she can’t understand what she’s saying. I don’t understand why Kelly said “OMG, I love you,” when she couldn’t understand the words.

Wilkes, 33, Waleska, Georgia: He’s been in music for 17 years and then became a stay-at-home dad. Currently, he is trying for country music and says The Voice will take some financial burden off his wife. He auditions with “One Headlight.”Adam says if he sings the chorus ‘good’ he’s turning. Both Blake and Adam turn with seconds left. Wilkes chooses Blake.

In the short spots of the night, Jesslee auditions with “I’m With You.” Blake goes head to head with Kelly for her and Jesslee chooses Blake. Jordyn Simone auditions with Tennessee Whiskey and went to Team Alicia Keys. Team Alicia Keys also got Megan Lee on her team with “Killing Me Softly With His Song.”

So far, Adam is struggling with getting a team member in this one-hour episode.

Jaron Strom, 29, Shelby, North Carolina: Loves Al Green, The Temptations and other Motown artists. Looks a lot younger than 29. Auditions with “This Magic Moment.” He loves the oldies and has a young pop vibe about him too. Blake likes the note that Jaron held and hits his button as the only judge who turned around.

Kelly still has her block left and Adam still doesn’t have a team member in this episode of The Voice. Did that change?
The teaser to the next contestant is so high with comments from each judge that the contestant is the best they heard. Who was it?

Terrence Cunningham, 36, Washington, DC: With a unique man bun, Terrence talks about becoming a 16-year-old father and decided to move to Los Angeles when she was 18 years old. Terrence auditions with a beautiful rendition of Adam turns almost immediately followed by Alicia Keys. Blake and Kelly hit next. “My Girl.” All four judges give a standing ovation. Blake says he’s speechless that it was a creative, heartfelt vocal. Terrence chooses Alicia Keys.

Adam has no team members for this episode.

When will Kelly use her block on next week’s episode of The Voice? We’ll see.

And by the way, Alicia Keys speaks so beautifully. I’d listen to anything she preaches.

Until next week.
