The Voice: It’s Live Voting Time!

The Voice

All 24 artists will perform this week and it’s time for us (I mean you) to vote. Voting is done by The Voice app or through retweeting on Twitter. That’s it. This is a fast-paced competition round, so let’s get started.

Team Kelly kicks off The Voice tonight. Kelly’s team is:
Brynn Cartelli
Dylan Hartigan
Kaleb Lee (Kelly stole him from Blake)
Alexa Cappelli
D.R. King
Tish Haynes Keys

The real-time results were displayed throughout the show.
Alexa Cappelli kicks it off with Susan Tedeschi’s “It Hurt So Bad,” and I love the gruffness of her voice and she puts on a solid performance.
No comments after the performances. We’re going right to Kaleb Lee, singing “You Don’t Even Know Who I Am.” He has a great country voice and is doing a nice job, and just when I was about to say I didn’t hear much of his range he belts out some lines. He ends the song on a high note and it was a solid emotional performance.
Singing “Nothing Left for You,” is Tish Haynes Keys. Come on, she can belt out anything can’t she sing? I get pulled in the second she starts singing.
Up next is Brynn Cartelli, the youngest artist in the competition. She’s singing “Unstoppable.” Wow, her voice is so advanced and she’s so talented. She had a few pitchy moments, but otherwise she was fantastic.
Slowing it down and singing “Come Pick Me Up,” is Dylan Hartigan. I’m not feeling this song, but we’ll see if he makes it through.
Singing “Home” is D.R. King who shows his range in the song, but I’m not crazy about his lower register. It seems like it’s dropping out. I like when he’s singing louder and higher.

The way this works is the top vote getter on The Voice goes to the Top 12 automatically.

Team Adam is next:
Rayshun LaMarr
Drew Cole
Mia Boostrom
Reid Umstadd
Sharane Calister
Jackie Verna

Drew Cole opens with “Man in the Mirror.” He’s one of my favorites in this competition. It’s a nice rendition, but it’s not blowing me away. Hopefully, he’ll be safe.
With “Baby I love you,” it’s Mia Boostrom, another one of my favorites. I love her outfit, but this is a singing competition and this woman commands a stage like no one else in this competition. I loved her performance and all of the judges stood up for her.
Singing “Tim McGraw” is Jackie Verna. She reminds me of Idina Menzel and it’s a nice rendition, but I feel like she’s holding back.
Next up is Rayshun LaMarr singing “Overjoyed” and he’s definitely channeling Stevie Wonder. I’d like to see him step out of that vibe though and do something else. Again it’s nice, but I’m not blown away and his little dance steps are cute, but it’s not pulling me in.
With her rendition of “Never Enough” is Sharan Calister. That was a knockout performance! I loved every bit of it.
Finishing out Adam’s team is Reid Umstadd with “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” I love Reid’s voice, but I don’t think this was the right song for him. He does a solid job with it, but it didn’t stand out for me.

While we wait for the other two teams, Team Kelly is getting notified of who received the top votes and is moving on to the Top 12 next week. The top artist on Team Kelly is Brynn Cartelli!

Next is Team Blake:
Pryor Baird
Kyla Jade
Wilkes
Gary Edwards
Austin Giorgio
Spensha Baker

With “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head,” Austin Giorgio kicks it off. Oh man, I am taken back to Frank Sinatra’s time with this kid, but I’m hoping he has some other range and can get enough of votes with those who love today’s music. It’s a fine performance, but I feel like he’s a little pitchy at times.

Performing “I Was Wrong,” is Pryor Baird — he’s one of my faves in the competition too. He is so comfortable performing live and I love his raspy voice. I really liked his performance. He never seems to be pitchy at all.
Singing “How Great Thou Art,” is Kyla Jade and dang this girl took us to church. What a voice and she really had an emotional performance with this song.
Singing “Finesse” is Gary Edwards and it’s a fun performance.
Spensha Baker is singing “I Still Believe in You.” This girl can sing, but I don’t think this rendition stuck out for me. We’ll see what happens.
Wrapping up the performances is Wilkes with “Brother.” He is definitely a dark horse for me in this competition.

Team Adam’s artist who got the most votes tonight and is going to the Top 12 automatically is: Sharane Calister.

Team Alica is next:
Britton Buchanan
Christiana Danielle
Kelsea Johnson
Terrence Cunningham
Jackie Foster
Johnny Bliss

With “America, America,” it’s Johnny Bliss kicking things off. It was good. Kelsea is singing “I’m No Good.” She has a great jazz club vibe about her, in my opinion.
Terrence Cunningham sings Prince’s How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore,” and he’s always solid.
Jackie Foster sings “Never Tear Us Apart,” and bangs it out of the park. Finishing up Alica’s team performances are Christiana Danielle who sings “Hey ya” and Britton Buchanan sings “Some Kind of Wonderful” and I like this rendition of it.

Let’s get to Team Blake and see who’s advancing to the Top 12 — America saved Kyla Jade.

Who’s advancing on Team Alicia’s team? It’s Britton Buchanan.

Tomorrow night the competition continues!
