Thurman vs Porter Odds Saturday CBS Boxing – The CBS Network airs a major boxing match in the welterweight division this Saturday, June 25th as WBA world champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0) takes on Shawn “Showtime” Porter (26-1-1) .

The fight has been a long-time in the making and it pits two of the top three welterweights in the world. The bout was scheduled for earlier this year after a long negotiation, but the original dates was pushed back due to a Thurman car accident.

The delay means that both men have been off for roughly a year, and that has different effects. For Porter, the concern is overtraining, as he has been healthy over the course of the last year. His camp considered taking a fight in between when Thurman became injured, but they decided to wait for the big match. No one can blame them for that, but Porter had to extend his training and preparatory period and it remains to be seen whether it will show in the ring.

As for Thurman, who sustained a neck injury in the wreck earlier this year, it remains to be seen if it will hold up under fire in a real match. Awaiting the winner is a deep wight class led by Kell Brook of England, the only man to defeat Porter when he took the IBF world title. Thurman too has had to listen to speculation that he does not want to fight Porter and has been trying to avoid the match.

The sports books have Thurman favored for the fight. Thurman is still undefeated because he is a lethal blend of technique and power, and he will enjoy slight height and reach advantages over Porter in this one. Since his loss to Brook, Porter has been focused on getting back to the top and the path runs through Thurman. Porter enters the match with a confidence that is bordering on cockiness. Porter’s last fight was a stand out performance against Adrien Broner, but Broner did send a careless Porter to the canvas in the last round, forcing Porter to hold on. Thurman is bigger and stronger than Broner, and many would argue a far better technical fighter. Porter will have to be on top of his game getting inside and not letting Thurman hit him. That is where this one will be decided, in the trenches.
