Thursday Night Boxing Odds

Thursday Night Boxing Odds – The Premier Boxing Champions are on Fox Sports 1 this Thursday with an eight fight boxing card live from the Horseshow Casino in Tunica, Mississippi. Three ten round welterweight bouts are in the main event spots and are slated for the FS1 broadcast, and a pair of them are getting attention at the sports books.

The main event sees Cuba’s Yordenis Ugas (17-3) taking on Gerogian Levan Ghvamichava (17-2-1) in a bout between two fighters that could use a win to start of 2017. Ugas is the hot hand her, as he has won two bouts since August of last year. both of those matches saw Ugas enter as an underdog against a pair of undefeated prospects. Ugas won a unanimous decision over Jamal James and then stopped Bryan Perrella in fights that were intended to elevate Ugas’ opponents. Prior to August, Ugas had been on a long layoff of more than two years, and his two fights back in February and May of 2014 resulted in losses to Amir Imam (20-0) and Emmanuel Robles (9-0-1). In this one Ugas will be the favorite, but Ghvamachiva is a tough, relentless fighter who is coming off a win over Colombia’s Breidis Prescott. In March of 2016 Ghvamichava suffered a setback when he took a loss to well regarded prospect Sergey Lipinets so he cannot afford another setback.

In the co-feature, Sammy “The Who can Mexican” Vasquez (21-1) is in full fledged comeback mode, as he is looking to bounce back from the first loss of his career this past July when he lost to Felix Diaz. Vasquez entered the fight a favorite and a win in July would likely have resulted in Vasquez earning consideration for a title shot but his plans were derailed when he came up flat against Diaz. Vasquez will be facing former world champion Luis Collazo (36-7) in a fight that sees Collazo return to the ring after a layoff of eighteen months. When last we saw Collazo it was in July of 2015 when he was stopped by undefeated Keith Thurman in the seventh round of a WBA world welterweight title match. It will be interesting to see what Collazo brings to the table in this one. Vasquez is known as a hard worker and he has likely spent the last six months trying to improve. Collazo’s short world title reign came about a decade ago but he is still much more seasoned than anyone Vasquez has faced until now. Collazo has not only been in there with Thurman, he has faced Ricky Burns, Shane Mosley, Amir Khan and Andre Berto so it is unlikely that Vasquez will worry Collazo heading into this one.

The PBC card also features undefeated welterweights Ryan Karl (13-0) and Eddie Ramirez (15-0) in a match-up that could pop up with lines as we get closer to fight time. This match could turn out to have the most competitive line of all the fights being offered as both men are well regarded regional prospects who are coming off wins against undefeated fighters.
