Tom Brady continues to defy conventional wisdom regarding age. For the last half-decade, NFL pundits and fans alike have talked about Brady’s inevitable drop-off, but he has silenced the doubters and continues to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Brady will turn 42 during training camp, yet his intense training and diet regiment has largely stifled any regression in his game. He can still wing it as he showed in an Instagram video yesterday.

More and more fans have followed their teams in relying on more analytics to influence their opinions. The chart below shows receivers’ ability to separate from defensive backs in coverage, and unsurprisingly some of the speediest guys in the NFL are above the league average in this regard. Former Buffalo Bills receiver Kelvin Benjamin had the least separation of any wide receiver in the league last season, and his 35 percent catch rate was also the lowest in the league. Benjamin had some pretty disparaging remarks regarding Cam Newton after being traded from Carolina to Buffalo, and Benjamin probably shouldn’t have said anything after looking at these numbers.

49ers fans are none too happy with NFL Network’s Adam Rank. Rank projected San Francisco to win just three games this season, and he has the team winning just one of its last 12 games. Cheer up though, San Francisco. At least you’re not Denver, who Rank predicted to finish 2-14.

Shaq Lawson is entering his fourth season with Buffalo, and he is looking to have a massive year before he hits free agency. He is making news for something else this week though after announcing that he would pay the costs for the funeral of an 11-year-old girl who was a victim of gun violence. There have been no arrests made or suspects named in the case.
