It’s always fun when players embrace their nickmames (meet Pete Alonso as a polar bear), when teams sign fan favorites to contract extensions (hello, Khris Davis in Oakland) and when underdogs have a little fun in Yankee Stadium (which has been a real house of horrors in the past for the Kansas City Royals). In short, it’s been a pretty fun 24 hours in Major League Baseball.
Third-base coach Gary DiSarcina first gave Pete Alonso the nickname “Polar Bear” because of his raw strength. Then some of his teammates caught on, and now the rookie sensation himself appears to be on board.

Meanwhile, the Athletics and slugging outfielder Khris Davis like each other, and it shows. Now there are $33.5 million more reasons.
Khris Davis is strong. Khris Davis is kind. Khris Davis is a leader. The elation of his extension, of proving that the A’s are building, continues our promise that we’re #RootedInOakland. pic.twitter.com/ULAPZvKveS

What would have been a lazy fly ball in Kauffman Stadium (and most other places) is a home run down the left-field line in the Bronx. Usually that works in the Yankees’ favor it seems, but not during the Royals’ 6-1 win on Thursday…
The Dodgers’ Julio Urias is likely headed to the bullpen after this start. Still, he sure enjoyed dominating the Brewers.
And now for something completely different, we present Reds relief pitcher Jared Hughes, who has a thing about picture day, apparently.
