Monday morning was a time for the Chicago Cubs to celebrate a big weekend sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals, and to look back at one of Major League Baseball’s best-ever pitching performances from 21 years ago. Sunday was for the slams — as in Hunter Renfroe’s walk-off grand slam for the Padres to beat the Dodgers — but also as in four other grand slams on a fun Sunday.
The Chicago Cubs punctuated a three-game sweep of the Cardinals with a 13-5 rout on Sunday Night Baseball. Safe to say the North Siders are having a pretty good Monday.

In 1998, the Cubs weren’t nearly as good, but they had a pretty good young pitcher named Kerry Wood. Nobody knew how good until he took on the Astros on May 6 and struck out 20 batters in a one-hitter.

The Padres loaded the bases on a single and two perfectly placed bunts with nobody outs in the ninth inning. Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen got two outs, but then Hunter Renfroe stepped to the plate.

The Cubs’ Kris Bryant and Renfroe were only two of five players to hit grand slams on Sunday. (That’s 5 grand slams on 5/5, if you’re keeping track).
Finally, the Reds’ Derek Dietrich is asking if you know why he pulled you over.
