Hoping to extend their undefeated record, the No. 16 Memphis Tigers (7-0) take on the Tulane Green Wave (2-5). The AAC’s second-leading passer, Paxton Lynch (2,366 yards, 17 TDs), will be featured in this game. It kicks off Saturday, Oct 31 at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be shown on CBSS.
In last week’s matchup, Memphis won big over Tulsa 66-42. Paxton Lynch had a huge game through the air in the victory, connecting on 32 of 44 pass attempts for 447 yards and four TDs. Jamarius Henderson had a great game as well, adding 112 rushing yards and two TDs on 14 carries. Tulane is hoping for a different outcome after losing to Navy 31-14. Charles Jones II had a good performance for the Green Wave, grabbing four receptions for 34 yards and one TD. Teddy Veal had 59 receiving yards on six catches.
The Over/Under (O/U) for the matchup is unavailable currently and the Green Wave are a big 27-point underdog.
Sitting at 7-0 Straight Up (SU) and 4-2-1 Against The Spread (ATS), the Tigers will look to improve heading into Week 9. A focal point of Memphis’s offense is its passing game, which ranks seventh in the country with 358 passing yards per game. Crossing over to the defensive side of the ball, the Tigers look to have a distinct advantage in certain spots. Expect the Green Wave to have a tough time running against the 20th-ranked Tigers run defense, which gives up 115.9 yards per game on the ground. In the first quarter, Memphis is tough to stop, putting up 11.9 points in the first 15 minutes. With the 15th-highest time of possession per game at 33:38, expect Memphis to control the clock this week.
In the other locker room, the Green Wave head into Week 9 with records of 3-4 ATS and 2-5 SU. Over their last five games, the Green Wave have a SU record of 2-3 and a 3-2 record ATS for those betting with them. Averaging 123.6 rushing yards over their last five games, Tulane’s running backs have turned it on lately. For the season, they’ve only averaged 102 yards per game. Over the last five games, the Green Wave turned it up on defense, only allowing an average of 239.6 passing yards per game. The Tigers might be leery of ball security against the Green Wave. They rank 12th in the country in fumbles recovered with one per game.
Predictions: SU Winner – Memphis, ATS Winner – Memphis
